    Resumen
This article addresses the service of financial companies to society from the perspec-tive of the Catholic Social Teaching (hereinafter CST), specifically regarding conflicts of interest between banks and their customers. The article begins with a case based on interviews with professionals in the financial sector, which provides the context for the CST¿s contribution. The analysis of the aforementioned conflicts points to an apparent disconnect between service to society and service to customers. Thus, the bank would set aside the customer¿s interests in exchange for a better service to society through good results. This article presents the CST¿s normative framework to analyze this matter through some of the CST¿s principles: the centrality of the person, the respect for her dignity, and the orientation to the common good. These principles and the CST¿s ethical concept of service provide guidance in assessing these conflicts of interest. From an ethical point of view and according to CST, there cannot be a true service to society if the dignity of the client is not respected. It is necessary to review the organization¿s incentive policy and level of awareness about the importance of customer service. We end with recommendations related to conflicts of interest with clients.

    Resumen
We explore offshore outsourcing through the lenses of Catholic Social Teaching (CST). First, we review the outcomes of the 30-year debate in business ethics on issues related to offshore outsourcing. We then cluster authors into two groups-the justice-centered approach and the welfare-centered approach-corresponding to different perspectives on the ethical challenges of offshoring. In the second part, we present and apply the four fundamental principles of the CST (human dignity, subsidiarity, solidarity and the common good) to offshoring, in dialogue with the previous debate. The unity and interconnection among the CST's fundamental tenets provide a cohesive framework that integrates the points made by the justice-centered and welfare-centered approaches, while introducing the principle of solidarity, more focused on the worker as a person and their flourishing. CST also stresses the need to initiate processes oriented toward structural changes for the sake of human dignity and the common good.

Telework has grown exponentially due to COVID-19, and has revealed itself as a useful work condition with a largely positive impact on employees' well-being. Since many variables are involved in determining the relationships between telework and well-being, this paper clarifies the role of teleworkability, employees' preference for telework, and telework intensity; specifically, how the first two variables impact on well-being through telework intensity. A systematic review was carried out between 2012 and 2022 to analyze how these variables relate. Scarce literature connecting these subjects showed that teleworkability and the preference for telework influence the amount of time employees wish to telework. Teleworkability and preference for telework need to be studied from a multilevel perspective since country-, company-, and individual-level characteristics impact on them. The results also confirmed that telework intensity establishes direct relationships with well-being, and it is essential to predict it. Hybrid work emerged as a new concept which captures the best combination between on-site work and telework. Based on their employees' preferences, companies can introduce hybrid-work flexible programs to maximize its positive effects on well-being as well as being able to re-design their jobs to better fit their employees' levels of telework expectations.

Past reviews have examined the association between positive personality traits known as character strengths and work-related outcomes. However, little is known about the role of positive traits in the pre-career stage. This study aims to fill this gap by mapping the peer-reviewed literature on the relationships between character strengths, moral motivation and vocational identity in adolescents and young adult students. Scopus and Web of Science databases were used to identify English written sources published between 1980 and October 2020. Documents had to include one of the 24 positive psychology character strengths or a moral motivation construct (moral reasoning, moral identity or moral emotions) and one vocational identity process (commitment, exploration or reconsideration). 136 documents were selected (123 quantitative, 8 qualitative, and 5 theoretical). 15 strengths were studied together with a vocational identity process. The most investigated strengths were prudence (27.9%) curiosity (20.6%), hope (20.6%) and love (19.9%). Only one moral motivation construct (the moral emotion of empathy) was associated with vocational commitment. Four character strengths were the most studied in association with vocational identity. These strengths coincided with some skills and competencies promoted in career counselling. Some suggestions for future research on vocational development and character education are stated.

    Resumen
Little is known about how teacher professional development helps enhance collective teacher efficacy so as to improve student performance. The present systematic review addresses two research questions, first by identifying 583 studies that may contribute pertinent information and then by performing in-depth analysis to eliminate those that did not meet our inclusion and quality criteria. After analyzing 18 studies, the results of this review confirm the impact of collective efficacy on student performance and highlight the importance of the role of principals in fostering a culture of trust and collaboration among school administrators and teaching staff.

    Resumen
The recent evolution of human work seems to signal a change of epoch that presents a challenge for theology. We urgently need a theological reflection that contributes, together with the other sciences, to addressing the challenges of contemporary work from a fully human perspective. This article justifies and presents a research project on recent theology of work which constitutes a starting point for the task mentioned. The article begins with a description of the present labor situation in the world and future prospects. Then, in the second part, it presents a preliminary review of recent theological literature in the fields of dogmatic, biblical, moral, and spiritual (practical) theology, pointing out possible avenues for further exploration. Some theological categories that can help respond to current challenges are suggested.

We study the value of the political connections of directors on Chinese boards. We build a new dataset that measures connections of directors to members of the Politburo via past school ties, and find that private firms with politically connected directors in the boardroom get on average about 16% higher subsidies over sales per firm (7 million yuan). Connected state-owned enterprises (SOEs) access debt at 11% cheaper cost, which translates into average savings of close to 32 million yuan per firm in lower interest payments. We find that the value of the political connections persisted after the anti-corruption campaign (ACC) of 2012. It became weaker for the cost of debt in SOEs, but stronger for subsidies to private firms. We argue that the value of connections in the private sector increased after the ACC because they became a less risky alternative to corruption. We also show that connected firms do not perform better.

    Resumen
As a result of the rapid and unplanned adoption of telework by European companies during the pandemic, specific telework characteristics have arisen. Thus, employees' experience of telework requires further analysis. Based on the Living, Working, and COVID-19 results for Baltic countries, this paper studies the effect of telework experience on wellbeing, both directly and mediated by Work-Life balance and job satisfaction, through structural equation modelling. After verifying the significant differences in telework preferences, the model is also tested in high versus low telework preference groups. The main findings corroborate the effect of a positive telework experience on perceived wellbeing, but only indirectly via Work-Life balance. Additionally, data from the group with a high telework preference best fits the proposed model, revealing not only the mentioned indirect effect, but also the direct positive effect of telework experience on wellbeing. Thus, employees with a negative experience of telework during the pandemic will be more reluctant to accept telework over more traditional work arrangements. The implications as well as some limitations to be examined in further studies are also presented.

    Resumen
A renewed interest in the study of character and virtue has recently emerged in the fields of Education and Psychology. The latest research has confirmed the association between virtuous consistent behaviours and academic positive outcomes. However, the motivational dimension of character (the intentions underlying the patterns of observed behaviours) has received little attention. This research aims to extend the knowledge on this topic by examining the predictive relationships between the behavioural and motivational dimensions of character, with reference to academic engagement, career self-doubt and performance of Spanish university students. A total of 183 undergraduates aged 18-30 (142 of whom were women) from the north of Spain completed specific parts of self-report questionnaires, including the Values in Action VIA-72, a Spanish translated and validated version of the Moral Self-Relevance Measure MSR, and the Utrecht Work Engagement Student Scale UWES-S9. The collected data were analysed using Structural Equation Modelling. The behavioural dimension of character (character strength factors of caring, self-control and inquisitiveness) showed positive associations with academic engagement and performance. The motivational dimension of character (phronesis motivation), was negatively related to career self-doubt. For the first time, the present study has provided support for the contribution of both dimensions of character to undergraduate academic outcomes.

This paper studies the effects of the bank capital requirements imposed by the European authorities in October 2011 on loan collateral and personal guarantees usage to enhance capital ratios. We use detailed information on the loan contracts granted by a representative Spanish bank and several subsidiaries to nonfinancial corporations around that date. We document that personal guarantees usage increases more than that of collateral, especially at subsidiaries with lower capital ratios. However, although the former type of guarantees demonstrably disciplined firms in their risk-taking before 2011, their subsequent overuse may have blunted their impact and may have even undermined firm performance and investment.

    Resumen
This paper aims to examine the phenomenon of overqualification by confronting two distinct notions surrounding what constitutes a praiseworthy achievement. On the one hand, the model that operates de facto in the contemporary labor market understands the notion of achievement in instrumental, competitive and individual terms. On the other hand, another model, which lays the foundation for workers¿ demands for recognition, is wider than the former one and considers workers¿ qualifications as standalone achievements. In my view, the experience of overqualification as misrecognition is based on the huge and ever-increasing amount of effort and resources that individuals must invest into their education and training processes, as well as on the fact that social institutions publicly and explicitly regulate, encourage and promote these processes. I conclude with a brief analysis of the main structural cause of this mismatch between demanded and obtained recognition, namely, the system is unable to generate enough social esteem to proportionally recognize the capacities that the system itself pushes workers to develop.

Because we work in teams more than ever, we should craft them fostering team members' motivation, wellbeing, and performance. To that aim, we propose a multi-level model explaining the emergence of team burnout, articulating the interplay between individual and team level mechanisms around ten empirically testable research propositions. Drawing from the JD-R theory, we formulated an emergence model of team burnout by combining team effectiveness and occupational health literatures. Our model explains how cycles of attention, information integration, and information-affect sharing on burnout cues foster the emergence of team burnout. It also explains how team burnout moderates the relationship between team structural variables and team members' burnout and how team burnout impairs team effectiveness through co-regulatory mechanisms. This model is timely because it addresses the importance of team burnout through a systematic effort connecting individual and team levels in explaining its emergence and the mechanisms through which it impairs team effectiveness.

The Teachers' Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES) has been the most widely used instrument to assess teacher efficacy beliefs. However, no study has been carried out concerning the TSES psychometric properties with teachers in Mexico, the country with the highest number of Spanish-speakers worldwide. The purpose of the present study is to examine the reliability, internal and external validity evidence of the TSES (short form) adapted into Spanish with a sample of 190 primary and secondary Mexican teachers from 25 private schools. Results of construct analysis confirm the three-factor-correlated structure of the original scale. Criterion validity evidence was established between self-efficacy and job satisfaction. Differences in self-efficacy were related to teachers' gender, years of experience and grade level taught. Some limitations are discussed, and future research directions are recommended.

This article sheds light on the unity and continuity between the Christian mystery and the Catholic Social Teaching (CST) and, in a broader scope, between dogmatic and moral theology. It presents, in a synthetic manner, a theological foundation of the CST's principle of solidarity. This study highlights the Trinitarian roots of the principle of solidarity and connects it with creation, redemption, the Eucharist, the communion of saints and eternal life. It concludes that Christian identity inevitably requires a principle like solidarity for the sake of social order. Finally, the article emphasizes the unity between the CST's three main principles (human dignity, solidarity and subsidiarity) to help discern whether their implementation is compatible with Christian identity or not. This article is useful for scholars interested in the Christian foundations of solidarity.

    Resumen
Participation in organized Extracurricular Activities has contributed to improve academic achievement. However, this does not happen in the same way; it depends on sex, age, or parental educational level. Our objective is to know the importance of these factor interactions¿ in the explanation of academic achievement. The sample consisted of 1148 adolescents, aged between 12 and 18 years, 52% of whom were female. Participants completed the Extracurricular Activities questionnaire, and academic and sociodemographic data were collected. The results show that differences in academic achievement depend on the adolescent stage. In early adolescence, girls improve in academic achievement, as well as with better parental education, reading of books and activity duration. On the contrary, in the middle and late adolescence, academic achievement improves with not participating in collective sports and reduced activity breadth, although parental educational level follows the same trend as in the early adolescence. These results reinforce the evolutionary hypothesis of specialization in the choice of activities throughout adolescence. In this sense, some proposals for schools that advocate for greater integration of curricular and non-curricular elements are discussed.

    Resumen
In recent years, collective teacher efficacy has been presented as a promising factor in improving student performance (Donohoo, 2017; Eells, 2011; Hattie, 2016). However, unlike self-efficacy beliefs, collective teacher efficacy has been studied much less. Hence, this systematic literature mapping seeks to deepen the development and study of the collective efficacy beliefs of teachers in the academic field, with the objective of understanding and synthesizing the information of various investigations regarding the subject in question. Through the methodology of systematic mapping, a total of 60 potential studies published between 2000 and 2019 and indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases were found. After the application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 35 studies were included in the present investigation. The results show the geographical distribution of the studies, the most frequently cited articles, the variables related to collective teacher efficacy, the instruments used to evaluate these beliefs, and the educational levels in which they have been studied. There is a clear interest in the study regarding the impact of collective teacher efficacy on student learning and performance. However, there is a lack of research on this subject in Spanish-speaking countries, as well as research focused on the promotion and development of collective teacher efficacy. This study concludes with a proposal for future lines of research.

The encyclical Sollicitudo rei socialis conceives the Catholic Social Teaching (CST) as an accurate formulation of a reflexion on the social problems, in the light of faith and the Church's tradition. This article explores the formulation of the principle of solidarity since it is hard to find a clear or complete definition of the principle itself in magisterial texts. The article harkens back to the complex origins of the principle of solidarity in CST and in the social sciences, and extracts the main contents pointed out by the CST. Next, the importance of counting on an accurate definition of the principle is explained and a definition is proposed in view of previous CST. Given the influence of the social sciences on the formulation of CST, the article finally highlights the convenience of purifying questionable elements when it comes to present and explain solidarity as a principle.

    Resumen
Understanding the family experience of health and illness within the family's social and cultural context helps health professionals understand a family's stories. The purpose of this article is to present salient characteristics of the Western European family to extend understanding about family structure and values in relation to caring and intergenerational solidarity. The goal is to provide nurses and other health professionals with culturally competent knowledge that can inform practise with families. Evidence suggests that a family model, characterized by strong-family type societies consisting of coresidence, solidarity, and intergenerational relationships, stalwartly continues in Mediterranean countries. However, due to the recent economic crisis in Spain and other European countries, there is a trend toward the withdrawal of state responsibility toward the family, and increasing weight on families' responsibility, particularly for women, toward the care of their old and chronically ill relatives. Therefore, there is a need to make health and social systems more effective, sustainable, and focused on family care.

    Resumen
In this article, we shall attempt to lay down the parameters within which the practice of the virtues may be enabled in the field of finance. We shall be drawing from the three main sources, Aristotle, Catholic Social Teaching (CST) and MacIntyre, on which virtue ethics is based. The research question is what ought to be done for financial activities to truly contribute to eudaimonia or human flourishing (Aristotle), to the achievement of three distinct kinds of goods as required of virtue, ¿those internal to practices, those which are the goods of an individual life and those which are the goods of the community¿ (MacIntyre), and to ¿[help] man on the path of salvation¿ in the midst of complex network of relationships in modern societies (CST). These parameters could then be taken as conditions financiers ought to fulfill in order to live the virtues in their work and across different life spheres.

In his visit to the United States, Pope Francis stressed the Christian message on ecology, which includes a calling to an ¿ecological conversion¿. However, a recent paper on the influence of Christian religiosity on managerial decisions concerning the environment argues that Christian faith discourages managers¿ environmental-friendly decisions. Francis message on ecology is part of the Catholic Social Teaching (CST), which contains valuable contributions, but it is still to be known. We present a synthetic view of CST on ecology and its implications for businesses, shareholders and consumers, which can also interest non-Christians concerned with the natural environment. Ultimately, we want to explain why Christians involved in economic activity should be concerned with the natural environment. We offer a moral qualification of acts regarding the natural environment, and conclude with some observations for Christian churches and business schools.

    Resumen
This paper explores the relationship between immigration and health status variation among Moroccan immigrants from a gender perspective, using data from a cross-sectional ethnographic survey conducted in the Spanish region of Navarre. Results show, against the literature, that women have a better health status variation than men, probably because men have a higher age profile and a longer stay in Spain. The binary logistic regression reveals important differences in social determinants by gender. Paid employment is the most positive, significant factor for health among women. Close social ties with compatriots, living in an inexpensive old house and, to a lesser extent, having a secondary level of educational achievement are the key factors for men. The economic implications of daily life have an impact on the health of Moroccan immigrants of both sexes.

    Resumen
In Sources of Normativity (1996), Christine Korsgaard introduced the notion of "practical identity" as part of her peculiar reconstruction of the Kantian foundation of morality; she defined "practical identity" as "the description under which you value yourself and find your life to be worth living and your actions to be worth undertaking" (SN 102). Later, in Self-Constitution (2009) she made this notion a cornerstone of an argument designed to show the relevance of morality to the constitution of human subjectivity. The aim of this article is to explain the way in which "practical identity" serves to the twofold purpose of making the Kantian argument about moral obligation plausible; as well as showing its articulation with different aspects of personal identity.

This chapter compares two national crowdfunding markets based on their platforms and regulatory legislation on crowdfunding. Spain and France were selected though a cluster analysis since both differ on those characteristics. Mean comparison tests were carried out to estimate differences. Data were based on a survey specifically designed and conductedfor this research. While crowdfunding is an internet-powered activity with global accessibility, national boundaries and geographic proximity play a significant role in shaping the performance of crowdfunding platforms. Regarding practical implications, as each country developed its specific legislation, it is concluded that this legislation may boost or hinder the growth of crowdfunding. On the other hand, the different way platforms managed their business does not affect their outcomes in terms of number of projects and funds raised. As a result, although platforms are indispensable as an intermediate agent between funders and investors, they determine neither the number of projects hosted nor the funds raised.

This book joins the contemporary recovery of Kant's empirical works to highlight the relevance of his concept of culture for understanding the sources of various characteristic modern dilemmas, such as the tension between culture and happiness, the morally ambivalent nature of cultural progress, or the existing conflicts between a factual plurality of cultures and the historical forces pressing toward a universal civilization. The book will be of special interest forKantian scholars, moral and political philosophers, as well as philosophers of culture, of history and of the social sciences.
