The Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra is looking for volunteers to participate in a research project regarding emotions in digital press. The study, led by Omar Rosas, is part of the project 'Emotional Culture and Identity'.

More specifically, students from the University of Navarra and from the Public University of Navarra (UPNA), between 19 and 25 years old, and professionals between 28 and 50 years old are needed. Another requirement is that the volunteers be people who read online national press on a regular basis.

These three groups will be used to organize discussion groups in order to study the readers' reactions to emotional news items. For example, the way different emotions are presented and discussed in news reports and how they are transmitted through text, images, audio and video.

Three discussion groups

The objective is to identify the audience's perceptions and attitudes versus the treatment of emotions in the online Spanish press in order to better understand the implications and/or consequences of the journalistic approaches of emotions in readers.

Focus groups will consist of discussion groups between 8 people, encouraged by the researcher, in which the participants can express their ideas regarding the main topic of discussion. Each group will attend one single session lasting 60-90 minutes. These sessions will be carried out at the Institute for Culture and Society located in Humanities library building.

A meeting with students from the University of Navarra will be taken place March 24-28. Another session, in which students from the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) and professionals will attend, will be held March 31 – April 4.
