NUCAPS is a consortium constituted by two pharmaceutical companies (Laboratories Cinfa and IDIFARMA), a Technological Food Center (CNTA) and the University of Navarra.

This association has developed new solutions based on the use of food proteins (GRAS) like casein or zein for oral administration and with drug /active substances and/or microorganisms controlled release.

NUCAPS offers a new and versatile encapsulation technology for its application in the food, cosmetic, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industry.

The applications of this technology are very varied:

  • Increase in bioavailability of molecules or functional ingredients.

  • Controlled release

  • Modification of the physicochemical characteristics (amorphization, particle size reduction)

  • Improvements in stability of active or encapsulated ingredients

  • Retention of volatile ingredients

  • Masking of flavors and aromas

  • Reduction of the amount of necessary ingredient/additive/active substance

  • Consecutive and controlled release of multiple ingredients/additives/active substances.

  • Etc.

The consortium members bring a wealth of experience and high scientific and intellectual property knowledge in the areas of application of this technology, and have invested in the acquisition of the necessary equipment to carry out both development and manufacturing. The NUCAPS Consortium has grants charged to the budget of the Ministry of science and innovation.
