Ignacio Ferrero, the Dean of the School of Economics and Business Administration, and Marta Rocchi, a researcher at the Markets, Culture and Ethics Research Centre (MCE), were presented with the Rafael Termes Carreró Research and Study Prize at the 12th edition of the Catalan Foundation of Financial Analysts Christmas dinner.

The Catalan Branch of the Spanish Institute of Financial Analysts (IEAF), which brings together more than 1,500 financial analysts and professionals from all over Spain, acknowledged the research work carried out by Ferrero and Rocchi in the field of financial ethics.

The study, “Wall Street and the (Ir)relevance of Ethics: Building the Character of Financial Analysts”, is based on the theory proposed by Scottish philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre in his 2015 article “The Irrelevance of Ethics”.

Using this theory as a starting point, Ferrero and Rocchi examine the function of the humanistic disciplines in the academic training of financial professionals and the role of morality in the financial sector.

The Rafael Termes Carreró Research and Study Prize, which was recently launched to mark last year’s 50th anniversary of the IEAF, was awarded in recognition of the study and research work conducted by Ferrero and Rocchi concerning the professional conduct of financial analysts.

The prize, which is awarded in memory of IEAF founder Rafael Termes, includes a financial award of €15,000 for the researchers, who will also have the opportunity to present the study at the Catalan Foundation of Financial Analysts next January. The judging panel, which was appointed by the foundation’s board of management, was made up of Cirus Andreu, Ramón Adell, Eduardo Martínez Abascal, Josep Lluís Oller and Jordi Melé.

Ignacio Ferrero, the Dean of the School of Economics and Business Administration at the University of Navarra, is a researcher and professor of Business Ethics. He is a member of the Academy of Management and the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN), and has been a visiting scholar at Bentley, Harvard and Notre Dame universities. He has also published a number of books and articles on business ethics. Marta Rocchi is a researcher at the Markets, Culture and Ethics Research Centre (MCE), which is part of the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce in Rome. She carries out research in the field of business ethics and corporate social responsibility. She has been honoured by the Society for Business Ethics for her studies on business ethics and was also a visiting scholar at Bentley University in Boston.
