On February 9, the fourth edition of the “Carrera de los Valientes” will be held, organized by the Sports Office of the University of Navarra. The solidarity race is celebrated for the benefit of Children Against Cancer, the program of the University of Navarra Clinic that channels the solidarity of individuals and companies and puts them at the service of research and support for the children and their families, so they can access to specific treatments.

In the presentation, the Vice Chancellor of Students of the University of Navarra, Tomás Gómez-Acebo, stressed that this event brings together sport, solidarity and participation: “The University of Navarra is an open campus, that welcomes teachers, students, employees and people from all over the city to take part in the race. We want everyone to participate in the campus”.

For his part, the president of the Navarra Athletics Federation, Rodrigo Domínguez, has affirmed that it is “a fantastic and well-established project” and encourages the University to continue betting on it: “It gives a point of sensitivity that is needed in everyday life in the society”.

Also, Pilar Lorenzo, responsible for Children Against Cancer, has highlighted that “thanks to this race it is possible to improve research and treatment”.

The event also featured Miguel Bados, Communication and Marketing director of El Corte Inglés; Pedro Tourón, director of Campus Home; Fidel Medrano, director of the Osasuna Athletic Club; Xabier Larraya, Marketing director of the Osasuna Athletic Club; as well as "Rojillo" and "Rojilla", the team's pets.

Five tours for adults and children

The race is open for all ages and offers five different routes. Children can enroll in the 800- and 1500-meters modalities, and adults in the 5 and 10 kilometers, and 5-kilometers march categories. It offers the option of collaborating through the “Zero Race Number” for those who cannot attend the competition. This year, in addition to the novelty of 5 kilometers march, there will be new routes and the numbers will have a chip to measure the timing in the categories of 5 and 10 kilometers.

The route, designed by the Navarra Athletics Federation, will be located on the campus of the University of Navarra. Registration is now open and can be done through the website of the IV Carrera de los Valientes. In the previous edition, 1,832 people were registered and 16,342 euros were raised for the fight against childhood cancer. Also, Campus Home will add to the collection one euro per registration.

Childhood cancer remains the leading cause of death from illness in children in developed countries. Around 250,000 new cases are diagnosed annually in the world. Since 2002, Children Against Cancer has allocated more than 2,428,671.15 euros to research projects and the treatment of 31 children with cancer. In order to finance the research and treatment of children suffering from a tumor, it channels the solidarity of individuals and the social commitment of companies and institutions.
