More than 400 linguists from 22 countries participated in the XI International Congress of General Linguistics

In some of the sessions, topics such as child language, technology and linguistics, experimental linguistics, translation and the contrast of languages and humor are addressed

More than 400 experts from 21 countries participated in the XI International Congress of General Linguistics at the University of Navarra, held on May 21-23, which was organized by the Institute for Culture and Society Project ‘Public Discourse' and the Faculty of Philosophy. The experts come from more than 70 campuses and institutions in Germany, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, China, Colombia, Croatia, USA, Arab Emirates, Spain, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Switzerland, Ukraine and Libya.

The activity was a continuation of the series of biennial conferences being held on the Spanish campus since 1994, as an opportunity for dialogue and scientific exchange regarding language and tongues.

At the congress, there were different sessions dedicated to language treatment at various levels and components from different theoretical perspectives. In some of these sessions, topics such as child language, technology and linguistics, experimental linguistics, translation and the contrast of languages and humor are addressed.

Among the linguists were: Raffaele Simone, from the University Roma Tre (Italy), one of Europe's leading experts on the philosophy of language and culture; and Salvador Gutierrez, a professor at the University of León and member of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE).

Round table: Galician Spanish, Basque, Catalan

A round table on ‘Standard Experiences: problems and solutions (Galician, Spanish, Basque, Catalan)' was also  held during the congress. It was moderated by Emilio Prieto de los Mozos, a professor at the University of Salamanca. Maria Josep Cuenca (Institut d'Estudis Catalans y Universitat de València), Francisco Fernández Rei (Real Academia Galega y Universidade de Santiago de Compostela), Salvador Gutiérrez Ordóñez (RAE) and Patxi Salaberri (Euskaltzaindia y Universidad Pública de Navarra/Nafarroako Unibertsitate Publikoa) were also involved.
