ICS researcher Rocio Davis participated at an annual meeting of an international university network in Taiwan
Representatives from 34 institutions around the world discussed the challenges research institutes face in a global world
Rocio Davis, a researcher at the Institute for Culture and Society and a professor within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Navarra, participated in the Third UBIAS Meeting (University Based Institutes for Advanced Study) held in Taipei (Taiwan) from November 27 to 29.
The meeting was coordinated by the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences at the National Taiwan University and representatives from 34 institutes for advanced studies from universities around the world attended. The conference theme this year was "Breaking Through Boundaries and Old Paradigms in the New Age of Globalization," along with a special focus on "Rising East Asia in the New Age of Globalization."
Rocio Davis, a researcher within the Emotional Culture and Identity project, which receives funding from Zurich Insurance, participated as a speaker at the roundtable entitled "Spotlight: Thinking from Latin America and Iberia." This roundtable also included contributions from Martin Grossmann, director of Institute for Advanced Studies at the Universidade de Sao Paulo (Brazil) and José Vicente Tavares-Dos-Santos from the Latin American Institute for Advanced Studies at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). The panel was moderated by Luisa Shu-Ying Chang, Dean of the Office of International Relations at the National Taiwan University.
Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula in global academic productionVarious panels and conferences were held over a four-day period. Among other topics, the contributions that East Asia, Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula have added to global academic production were addressed. Other topics included: the potential of the UBIAS network, creativity and interdisciplinarity, models for cooperation between institutes within the network, the leading natural sciences and technology research coming out of institutes for advanced study, and the importance of the social sciences and humanities in debates on the pressing issues of the day.
The UBIAS meeting is held annually to share experiences, promote cultural and scientific exchanges, and to foster institutional agreements.
