The University of Navarra has received the award in the category ‘best initiative in Training’ granted by El Economista. The ninth edition of these awards was attended by more than 400 businessmen and managers from all sectors. On behalf of the Acting Executive that attended the event: Carmen Calvo, Vice President of the Government, Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Equality, who presided over the event; and Reyes Maroto, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.

The Night of the Economy 2019 had the intervention of the seven winners, in addition to the president of Editorial Ecoprensa, Antonio Rodríguez Arce; and the CEO of Caixabank, Gonzalo Gortázar. The event was held at CaixaForum Madrid on the 3rd of April.

The rector of the University of Navarra, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero, picked up the prize that was given by Ester Uriol, director of communication for El Corte Inglés.

During his thank you speech, the rector highlighted the crucial role of education and research as the main way to compete for Spain. In this sense, Sánchez-Tabernero stressed that a high percentage of the science of our country has its origin in universities. He took the opportunity to request the support of both the public and private sectors in order to bet on a quality science that attracts talent and is at the service of the society.

In a video that was projected on the academic center it was explained that with its firm commitment to research, interdisciplinarity and humanistic training, the University of Navarra has managed to position itself as the third in Europe in teaching according to the ranking of Times Higher Education, behind Oxford and Cambridge, thus cementing its global projection: today more than 25% of the students of the University are international.

In her speech, the acting Vice President of the Government, Carmen Calvo, cited the words of the rector of the University of Navarra to underline the importance of betting on training and science.
