¿Por qué estudiar Magisterio de Primaria?


The Degree in Primary Teaching is aimed at students who are interested in teaching children between the ages of 6 and 12. Through this degree, students will develop the intellectual, instrumental and personal skills needed to perform the role of teacher effectively. They are expected to develop an understanding of children's educational needs and living situations, as well as work in partnership with their families to complement the learning they receive at home. They must demonstrate a capacity for study, creativity and responsibility, and possess the skills required to communicate with people.

If you study the  Degree in Primary Teaching at the University of Navarra:

  • Thanks to a training program that combines theory with practice, you will learn how to become a good professional with a desire to continually learn and maintain a high-quality level of work, and to keep abreast of the impact that social and cultural changes have on educational centers and the living situations of children.

  • You will benefit from the support of a Department of Education with more than 50 years' experience in training educational professionals and that strives to improve teaching by applying the results of the research it carries out.

  • You can choose a specific training program that will prepare you to meet the current demands of primary education by taking one of the specialization qualificationsDealing with Diversity (to develop the skills needed to teach children with special learning needs) and Language Proficiency in a Foreign Language (in order to be able to teach in English). You can also opt for the DECA Diploma, a qualification awarded by the Spanish Episcopal Conference that provides students with academic training for teaching religion in schools. You will also learn how to incorporate the use of new technologies in order to improve your teaching skills.

  • You will undertake more than 500 hours of internships at various educational institutions in Spain and overseas.

  • You will be able to study the Double Degree in Education and Primary Teaching (four years), which will broaden your employment opportunities while enhancing your training.

  • You will be able to continue your training through two official master's degree programs: the Master's Degree in Educational and Psychological Intervention and the Master's Degree in Secondary School Teaching


  • The Education study programs at the University of Navarra began in 1965 with the creation of the Institute of Educational Sciences.

  • The Educational Sciences study programs emerged later, in 1975, in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

  • During the early years, it was only possible to undertake first-cycle study programs, until the Ministry of Education approved the undergraduate curriculum in 1980.

  • Within the framework of comprehensive university reform in the 1990s, the Ministry of Education standardized the curricula for undergraduate degrees in Education and Educational Psychology (1994). 

  • Later, in the wake of the Bologna Declaration and the process of convergence towards the European Higher Education Area, the Degree in Primary Teaching, among others, was launched during the 2009-2010 academic year.
