The founder of Opus Dei visited the University eight times between 1960 and 1974, on the occasions of various academic ceremonies and other encounters with people related to the University and the city of Pamplona.
During the first visit of St. Josemaría to Pamplona the University is officially erected as such (previously it had been a General Center of Studies [Estudio General]). In addition, St. Josemaría receives the distinction of “Adoptive Son of Pamplona”, celebrates Holy Mass at the Cathedral, and consecrates a chalice at the Aralar Hall of Residence.
As Chancellor of the University, he participates in the concession of the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa to various persons. He is received by the City Hall of Pamplona, and holds various talks in the auditorium of the Belagua Hall of Residence. He also attends the 1st Assembly of the Association of Friends of the University Navarra.
The founder of Opus Dei receives the Governing Council of the University, and visits and kisses the Mother of Fair Love at the shrine located on the campus of the University of Navarra.
St. Josemaría presides over the concession of the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa. He holds various talks at the Gayarre Theater. The founder of Opus Dei celebrates a Mass on the Esplanade of the Old Library of the University, where he gave the famous homily "Loving the world passionately".
St. Josemaría holds talks with the governing councils of Theology and Canon Law, as well as with the directors of newspapers of Pamplona. In the evening, the founder of Opus Dei visits the Shrine of Our Lady of Fair Love in the shrine on the University campus.
Presides over the concession of the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa. Participates in various talks in the auditorium of the Belagua Residence Hall: with professors and employees of the University, cooperators of Opus Dei and supernumeraries. He also holds a similar talk at the Irabia School. In addition, he takes advantage of his stay in Pamplona to visit the Monastery of Alloz, and to consecrate an altar as the Belagua Phase II Hall of Residence.
