"To be a university student is to be humanist"The meeting was held to reflect on the presence and necessity of the humanities within university education, as well as on titles for it and the professor's role, in order to create a space for discussion and an exchange of ideas and experiences on current and upcoming challenges.
Antonio Jose Guzman, Rector of the Universidad de Los Andes, discussed the importance of the humanities in the education of students, the relationship between teaching and research and the objectives of university education. In this regard, he claimed that the university is the vehicle through which knowledge and culture navigate through time and generations, thus in not completing this task, future generations may find themselves somehow impoverished.
Meanwhile, the Director of the ICS highlighted that "To be a university student is to be a humanist. Otherwise, one has an incomplete worldview. Leaders must capture this reality and help students to discover it in their day to day of learning."
