A hundred professionals from different faculties, centres and services of the University of Navarra attended the presentation of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) on the campus of Pamplona. Speakers included the Rector of the University, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero, and the Director of ICS, Jaime García del Barrio.

In his speech, the Rector emphasized "interdisciplinarity, internationality, and the social impact" of the research work carried out in the ICS. He also recalled that the University has reference centers in the field of science and technology- Clinic, CIMA, CEIT…- and explained the Institute does implement this model of excellence in the field of Humanities, one step forward in the aspiration of the University of Navarra to "become a real research University aimed at responding to the challenges of today's society".

Moreover, the general director of ICS focused on the profile of researchers: he pointed out that they come from 17 countries and have formed in prestigious Universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Columbia, Yale, and Princeton. He also emphasized the interdisciplinary dialogue between the four areas covering the eight lines of research: Poverty and Development; Globalizations, Human Rights and Interculturalism; Family, Education and Society; and Contemporary Art.

Thereafter, there was a colloquium moderated by Ignacio Uría, director of ‘Nuestro Tiempo' attended by Ana Marta González, ICS's scientific coordinator and principal investigator of the project on 'Emotional Culture and Identity'; Manuel Casado, principal investigator of the project on ‘Public discourse. Persuasive and Interpretive Strategies; and Jose Ignacio Murillo, principal investigator of the ‘Mind-brain' project.

It may be pointed out that the act of Pamplona is the first of the ICS roadshow: the upcoming events will be held in Sevilla (19 September), Vigo (24 September), Barcelona (10 October), Madrid (October 30), San Sebastian (7 November) and Valencia (14 November).

The purpose of this roadshow across Spain is to present the work of the ICS between friends, graduates, parents of students and citizen in general, and seek financial support for different lines of research.
