Plan de Estudios - Grado en Biología

The curriculum indicates the subjects for the degree and their nature (basic, required, electives, etc.), the number of credits for each subject, etc. Topics are divided into subjects, which in turn are organized into modules. In addition, it includes practical information for the student's academic life.

Understanding the foundations of mathematics, physics, chemistry, statistics and information technology that are relevant to biological processes and living beings, as well as to be able to critically apply the methods of observation, measurement and experimentation that are specific to biology.

Understanding the structure and function of the prokaryote and eukaryote cell and their organelles; the structure, function and regulation of tissues, organs and systems in animal and plant life forms, as well as embryology and developmental biology.

Understanding the structure and function of biomolecules, in particular complex macromolecules, along with the primary metabolic pathways and their regulation, and the principles that govern exchanges of matter and energy with the environment. Understanding the organization, dynamics and expression of genes and genomes, the laws of inheritance, and sources of genetic variation.

Learning about the origin of life and the fundamentals of biological evolution. Learning about the genetic basis of biodiversity. Understanding the structural and functional characteristics of the main groups of organisms and the principles and methods of taxonomy.

Learning about the nature of the physical environment and understanding interactions between organisms and their environment, or among organisms, at the various levels of the ecological hierarchy: organism, population and community/ecosystem.

Learning about the fundamentals of professional ethics and develop a framework for professional ethics from a scientific perspective, as well as an integrated vision of human relations. Learning about the main topics of debate and future challenges in the field of biology, as well as practical applications of biology in the healthcare, environmental, industrial and educational sectors, among others.

Integrating the competences associated with the degree (both module-specific and cross-cutting competences) through the development, presentation and defense of a project related to the student's professional interests.

Gaining a deeper understanding of aspects related to the environment in the area of biodiversity and the function and management of ecosystems; exploring biomedicine at the level of clinical and cytogenetic analysis; and deepening one's knowledge in other fields related to biology.

Over the course of the Degree in Biology, our students choose between 2 different itineraries depending on the elective subjects they choose: Clinical or Marine Biology. From first year on our students also have the option of complementing their studies with the Science and Business Program, which is compatible with both of the above specializations.
