Specialization in Linguistic Competence (English, French, Basque)

Intended for Primary Teaching and Early Childhood Education students

Number of places: minimum 5 - maximum 20

This specialization is devised to prepare students to work in an educational context where foreign languages are used to communicate inside and outside the classroom. The idea is that, with this specialization, future teachers will be capable of working in bilingual/multilingual schools, making contacts and working with other foreign schools, taking part in international projects, setting up exchange programmes, etc.

To teach in a Foreign Language, such as English, it will be necessary to pass the Degree in Primary Education with the Linguistic Competence Specialization, and prove a C1 level in this language.

How do students achieve this specialization?

In order to gain this Specialization, students should take 48 out of the degree's 240 credits as specified below:

  • 24 ECTS from the third year Practicum. These are teaching placements in one of the schools listed by the University to be trained in matters of Linguistic Competence in a foreign language.

  • 6 ECTS from the Final Year Project concerning a topic related to the Specialization.

  • 18 ECTS from Degree subjects that are either given in this language or their content is related to learning it.
