Mark Gibson, PhD

Associate Director and ILCE Dean of International Students


Dr. Mark Gibson has been a Professor at the Universidad de Navarra since 2011. A native of Ohio, Dr. Gibson obtained Bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and Linguistics from Ohio University and a Master’s degree in Linguistics with an emphasis in Hispanic Linguistics, also from Ohio University. He obtained his PhD in Linguistics with a specialization in Phonetics and Phonology from the Universidad Complutense en Madrid. He has been a post-doctorate researcher in Phonetics at the Laboratoire de Phonétique et Phonologie at the Université Sorbonne de Paris and the Phonetics Laboratory at the Universität Potsdam. From 2014-2015 he was a Visiting Professor of Laboratory Phonology, Statistical and Computational Modeling and Experimental Phonetics in the Linguistics Department at Rice University in Houston, Texas (USA). His research focuses on the timing of articulatory action and how temporal coordination patterns develop and are learned in a dynamic systems framework. His research also explores new mathematical tools with which to model articulatory coordination and development and the link between perceptual cue weighting and vocal tract action.
