The University of Navarra Science Museum inaugurated "Science on the street" an initiative to bring citizens closer to the science behind everyday aspects such as, for example, beer, a loaf of bread, a cell phone, a car, or fruit through infographics.

The Science Museum has produced 50 infographics in Spanish and Basque, which have been displayed on twenty billboards and thirty bus shelters in Pamplona and the region. The documents can be downloaded via QR code.

The presentation took place beside the bill board located in 38 Paseo Sarasate (Pamplona) and those in attendance included Ignacio López-Goñi, Director of the Science Museum, Agurtzane Martínez Ortigosa, Director General of Innovation of the Regional Government of Navarra, and Fernando Sesma, Councilor in Education, Citizen Participation and Youth.

Promoting scientific culture

The Director of the Museum highlighted that this initiative aims to tell different stories of "citizen science" and encouraged other municipalities in the region "to collaborate in bringing science to their localities and even to schools".

Agurtzane Martínez Ortigosa, Director General of Innovation of the Regional Government of Navarra, emphasized that this activity is special "because it addresses a problem present in society, the lack of scientific culture. Science is in everything we do. As this campaign makes clear, we need to change the perception of science as something out of touch with reality, because the future needs people with scientific-technical profiles," she said.

Finally, Councilor Fernando Sesma stressed that Pamplona is part of the International Association of Educating Cities and is trying to turn the whole city into an educational space. Therefore, he highlighted this initiative with which "the citizens of Pamplona can find themselves walking around the city with the infographics on the billboards and bus shelters and see the science behind many of the everyday issues ".

This outreach activity is one of the activities organized by the University for Science Week.  It is an initiative of the University of Navarra Science Museum and the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country, with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT)/Ministry of Science and Innovation, Regional Government of Navarra and the Pamplona City Council.
