On January 8, the University of Navarra launched a free online course entitled, "Navarra: History and Culture, "organized by the University’s Department of History together with the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS). This Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) covers the trajectory of the region, through its milestones and artistic expressions, in ten modules.

Once the course opens, students can join at any time and complete it until February 18 at 23:59 European continental time. Registration and course completionare free. The content is presented in an audiovisual format with complementary written materials, self-evaluations and a forum to keep in contact with the teaching staff.

The "Navarra: History and Culture" MOOC defines the region’s geographical peculiarities and legal framework and then fixes on the Roman occupation, going through the Middle Ages, until the official foundation of the Kingdom. It analyzes Navarra’s pre-historical and ancient archaeological remains, as well as the Baroque works found here. In this way, students will better understand the changes in the last centuries that have given rise to contemporary Navarra and will appreciate all of its cultural richness.

"Pandemics: New viral infections" is back

On the other hand, on January 8, a new edition of Professor Ignacio López-Goñi’s "Pandemics: New viral infections" MOOC will be back. Professor López-Goñi won an award for Communication and Dissemination from the ASEBIO (Spanish Association of Biocompanies) for this course, whose first edition concluded with 2,510 participants.

What do bird flu, dengue, Ebola and AIDS have in common? Can a virus change the world in the twenty-first century? Is an epidemic possible worldwide? Professor López-Goñi starts by explaining what a virus is and how it multiplies, and answers all these and other questions with scientific, but also familiar and informative language.
