30 Christian, Jewish and Muslim researchers discuss interfaith dialogue at a conference hosted at the University of Navarra
These researches come from 18 countries and will gather at the Institute for Culture and Society to discuss issues related to religious pluralism in the European Union, models of coexistence, and the place of Islam in Europe.
More than 30 Christian, Jewish and Muslim researchers from universities in 18 different countries will discuss interfaith dialogue at the University of Navarra. This conference is organized by the Religion and Civil Society project of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS).
This conference, entitled, "The Abrahamic religions and interfaith relations in the past and present," will take place on March 10-11, 2016. The participants are specialists in fields such as the social sciences, history, philosophy and the humanities and they will present research that sheds light on how to achieve better understanding between the Abrahamic religions, i.e., Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
Among other topics, the conference attendees will discuss issues related to how to combat terrorism from the Muslim perspective, religious pluralism in the European Union, the analysis of models on interfaith understanding, the place of Islam in Europe, intercultural education, the relationship between science and religion, the role of tourism in interfaith relations, and the interaction between religious traditions in different regional contexts.
The conference's keynote speakers include Monawar Hussain, a Muslim Imam and advisor to the Hospitals NHS Trust at the University of Oxford (UK), Carlos Eire, a professor of history and religious studies at Yale University (USA), James Conroy, Vice Chancellor for Internationalization at the University of Glasgow (UK) and a professor of religious and philosophical education, and Tania ap Siôn, Deputy Director of the St. Mary Research Center in Wales and research fellow within the Research Group on Religion and Education at the University of Warwick (UK).
