"Modern palliative care combines science and humanity," or so claims Mary Arantzamendi, professor at the School of Nursing and researcher at the Institute Culture and Society, in her article entitled "The Most Humane Care", recently published by the magazine Nuestro Tiempo
The text mentions the historical origins of palliative care and describes this field's current state in Spain, where there are 375 palliative care services.
Furthermore, based on the World Health Organization's May 2014 Declaration, which requests all countries to include palliative care as an essential component of their health systems, Arantzamendi professor reclaims the value of this care, based on support, understanding and listening to the terminally ill and their families: "Being with and for the patient has great value and is also one of the medical interventions that can most ease and help the sick."
