Edgar Benítez, an engineer with a master's and doctorate in sciences from the National University of Colombia, has joined the Education of Human Sexuality and Affectivity (EASH for its initials in Spanish) project at the Institute for Culture and Society of the University of Navarra.

He has held positions in research, teaching and administration in a variety of university centers, as well as in companies in his native Colombia. His work focuses on research and statistics methodology, which he has taught at the undergraduate, master and doctorate levels.

He has also been a methodological and statistical advisor in the planning and execution of research projects in various disciplines, including in the social sciences, engineering, chemistry, pharmacy, agronomy, medicine and veterinary medicine.

Analysis of Data

Edgar Benítez found out about the EASH project because he had collaborated closely with its principal investigator, Jokin de Irala, on a project carried out jointly with the University of La Sabana (Colombia). They studied university students’ romantic relationships in different Colombian academic centers to determine what aspects and circumstances favor their success.

Concerning Benítez’s role at EASH, Jokin de Irala noted that, "His experience will allow us to plan and execute higher quality studies and data analysis. For example, in the AMAR project, we collect data related to future marriages. Some of this data requires a particular statistical approach. Edgar will lend his expertise to deciding what type of analysis to do in each case.”

Edgar Benítez points out that what most attracted him to join the ICS was "its broad perspective on various cross-cutting issues related to human development, the multidisciplinary team and how well everyone treats each other."
