Resumen: Sensors for carbon dioxide are required in diverse fields, from air quality control to intelligent food-packaging. The requirements for those sensors in terms of performance, detection range and price vary greatly, depending on the field under consideration. Although infrared technology detectors are very widespread and are accurate, they are still expensive for some applications; thus, a considerable research effort is focusing on the improvement of the characteristics of solid-state devices. This chapter reviews electrochemical, impedimetric (conductometric) and field-effect devices for carbon dioxide detection. Throughout the chapter, the role of semiconductor materials in different devices is analyzed.
