Granular convection

When a group of grains is agitated in a certain direction, the global particle displacements are coherent (in general), and macroscopic advective currents can be easily identified. This process is called "granular convection" by the "granular community”. The peculiarities of these global displacements seem to be related with the interparticle interactions but the boundaries conditions can be also relevant. In this research line, we explore the role played by the spatiotemporal symmetry breaking of boundary conditions.
