Professional prospects

Medical students at the Universidad de Navarra receive a solid theoretical and conceptual training that is combined with an extensive preparation through medical clerkships. This consistent practical education is made possible offering a wide a diverse plan of clinical rotations in regional and national medical centers, in general and specialized hospitals, and in primary care centers, which are all of them either private or public:

  • Clínica Universidad de Navarra

  • Complejo Hospitalario de Navarra (Servicio Navarro de Salud)

  • Hospital García Orcoyen (Servicio Navarro de Salud)

  • Centros de Atención Primaria (Servicio Navarro de Salud)

  • Centros de Salud Mental (Servicio Navarro de Salud)

  • Hospital San Juan de Dios (Orden SJD)

  • Clínica San Miguel (IMQ)

  • Centro Hospitalario Padre Menni (Hermanas Hospitalarias)

At the start of their career, students are appointed an advisor who ensures achievement of academic performance during the first three years of basic courses. When students start their clinical training (4º-6º) a clinical tutor is assigned not only to guide academic aspects but also professional development through correct career guidance (suggestion of electives, orientation of final work, selection of rotations in Spain or abroad, medical specialty, etc.)

When students complete their Medical Degree, which is awarded with the level 3 of the Spanish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (Master level of MECES), graduates can opt to do their specialty residency internationally in many parts of the world.

In Spain medical graduates must pass the MIR national exam and according to reports from the Ministry of Health, students from the Universidad de Navarra Medical School are in the “strong group” compared to other medical schools nationally. Included in the list of Spanish centers approved by the National Commission of Specialties, which is required by MIR services to carry out a specialty, the University Clinic of Navarra is found and it offers 32 different specialty departments.

Each year an increasing number of students choose to make their careers in other European countries (as England, Germany, France, the Netherlands or Sweden) or the United States, among others. As a result, our students continue to excel internationally and demonstrate a high skill level both on foreign licensing examines and professional medical practices.
