Introduction

'Researching and Promoting Character Education in Latin American Secondary Schools' is a joint research project of the School of Education and Psychology and the Institute for Culture and Society at the University of Navarra. It receives funding from the Templeton World Charity Foundation.

The project, which began on December 28, 2015 and lasts for three years, aims to achieve a better understanding of how to stimulate positive character traits, particularly social and moral virtues, and to analyze how they can be promoted in secondary schools in Latin America.

It includes a theoretical component, as well as practical application, focusing on Mexico, Argentina and Colombia. These countries have plans to review their education policies and best practices in schools, in consultation with each region's educational authority. In addition, the team will develop six case studies in secondary schools, for which it will carry out surveys, analyze classrooms, organize several focus groups and interview students, teachers and parents.

The research aims to apply it conclusions in promotion of education in social and moral virtues in Latin America. The results of the project will impact high school students and teachers, educators, researchers, policy makers and parents.
