Molecular Nutrition and Metabolism

The main objective of this research area, which belongs to the NUTRIBIOSIM research group (Nutridynamics and Bioactives in Metabolic Syndrome), is to carry out an integrative study of the physiopathological and molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation of body weight in obesity and aging, as well as in the development of associated pathologies such as type 2 diabetes, hepatic steatosis or certain types of cancers.

Moreover, we aim to determine how these conditions can be prevented/treated with diet, exercise, and other novel therapeutic interventions.

A multidisciplinary approach will be carried out by the use of:

  • omics-technologies (transcriptomics, lipidomics,…)

  • in vitro cell culture systems

  • in vivo studies in diet-induced obese mice and transgenic mouse models

  • nutritional intervention studies in humans.
