Integrating programs against gender-based violence into existing programs on affective and sexual education could help prevent this social problem, or so claimed the Polish researcher Maria Moulin-Stozek in an interview with the Spanish newspaper ABC. Moulin-Stozek, a specialist in law and criminology, works within the Education of Human Affectivity and Sexuality project, housed at the Institute for Culture and Society of the University of Navarra, and directed by Jokin de Irala.

"Preventive services are relatively rare," she noted and continued, “There are dating violence prevention programs that teach skills to develop non-abusive relationships with dating partners, conflict resolution, communication skills and techniques for seeking help. These programs are very rare and are carried out mostly in North America. This is not enough. To expand violence prevention, the programs could be for example integrated with sexuality education.”

In that line, the ICS expert regretted that, according to representative studies, "violence among adolescents is prevalent,” although, “there are very few interventions for this group."

Maria Moulin-Stozek stressed the importance of involving both "boys and men in the prevention of violence against women" and stressed that "a growing effort" is being made to move forward.

When it comes to helping survivors of abuse, she stressed that we must "[train] people working with survivors, i.e., police officers, lawyers, health care workers..." She pointed out a new feature of this field, which includes family members and friends who support survivors of gender-based violence in intervention programs.
