Dr. Marta Ferrer Puga, new Dean of the School of Medicine of the University

The President of the University of Navarra María Iraburu, has appointed Dr. Marta Ferrer Puga as new dean of the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra. She replaces Dr. Secundino Fernández González, who is the new Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The new dean, from Barcelona, is a Professor in the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra and Director of the Allergy Department of the Clínica. She has served as the Clinica´s attending medical director from 2019 to the present. With a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Zaragoza, she is a doctor and Allergy specialist in the Clínica Universidad de Navarra. She was Associate Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Navarra between 2005 and 2012. She did her postdoctoral training in the State University of New York and worked as a Research Associate in the Medical University of South Carolina. She is a member of the Board of the Spanish Allergy Society, and Deputy Editor of Allergy. She is group coordinator of the Health Outcomes-Oriented Cooperative Research Network. (RICORS). She is a Fellow and member of the Dermatology Section of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI). She is also a Member of the Skin Committee of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). She is a Scholar of Harvard Macy Institute, School of Medicine of the University of Harvard.  She is also an external examiner with Imperial College London.

Her professional career includes research in urticaria and angioedema, as well as research in new pharmaceutical forms (nanoparticles) for immunotherapy.  She has been the Principal researcher of 23 competitive research projects.

Furthermore, she has been in charge of setting up the Medical Education Unit, introducing new teaching methodologies and the Integrated Curriculum. She is the author of more than 150 publications, two international patents, 17 book chapters and a book for patients.
