Jesús M. Hernández, new Vice General Manager of CIMA in the University of Navarra

Fernando de la Puente, Vice General Manager of CIMA until now, will take on the role of head of R&D in the University

Dr. Jesús M. Hernández has been appointed VIce General Manager of the Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA) at the University of Navarra. Fernando de la Puente will be devoting his time fully to his position as head of R&D in the University

Jesús M. Hernández has a degree in Medicine and an MD from the Complutense University of Madrid, where he completed the specialty of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. In 1989 he joined the pharmaceutical company Lilly, where he has held several management positions in the area of  Research, Development and Innovation, in Spain, USA and the United Kingdom. In 2009 he took up the post of Vice-President for Clinical Research and Medical Department for Europe. He has also received a sound training in business from the London Business School, Harvard Business School and IESE.

When he takes up the post on 1 June, Dr. Hernández will be responsible for managing the research in CIMA in all four areas: Oncology, Neurosciences, Cardiovascular Sciences, and Gene Therapy and Hepatology. He will help to transform scientific knowledge into real innovation, forge new alliances for CIMA, and direct operations in the areas of Research, Development and Innovation.

De la Puente, Director of R&D in the University

Fernando de la Puente was appointed VIce General Manager of CIMA in 2002, and since 2009 he has combined this role with that of head of R&D in the University of Navarra, which he will now become his full-time responsibility. He will take charge of developing the University's research policy. He is coordinating the launch of the "Proyecto Horizonte 2015" (Horizon 2015 Project) for the Campus of Excellence Awards, which encompasses the new center for the humanities and the centers for bioengineering, nutrition and genomics, and research into neglected diseases. 

Fernando de la Puente took a Law degree from the University of Navarra and completed the General Management Program at IESE. He has been spokesman and executive secretary of the OTRI Network of Spanish Universities, and in the University of Navarra he has held the positions of Director of the Institute of Science and Technology (1988-2002) and Head of the Publications Service (1990-2002). At present he is also in charge of the University's Photographic Archive, and teaches on the Master's Degree in Drug Development and the University Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering.
