With revenues exceeding 26 million euros, Ceit consolidates its position as an increasingly robust and sustainable technology centre.

The consolidation of the team and research excellence define a strategic year for the centre.

Ceit has published its 2024 annual report, a year in which the centre achieved what its Executive President, Eduardo Ayesa, described as “exceptional” results. In a global context marked by geopolitical and economic uncertainty, Ceit managed to increase its revenues to €26.5 million, representing a 19% rise compared to the €22.2 million reached in 2023.

This growth was made possible thanks to a solid balance between R&D with companies (€12.1M) and in-house R&D projects (€12.3M), complemented by other sources of funding (€2.1M).

A committed team

Ceit ends the year with a team of 269 people, of which 53% are technology-generating researchers and 23% are technology transfer researchers. The rest of the team consists of research support staff (13%) and administrative and services personnel (11%).

“We remain committed to making Ceit the best possible place for training and building an excellent professional career,” stated Eduardo Ayesa, who also highlighted the increase in the number of PhD students and the quality of the strategic infrastructures launched in recent years.

Scientific output and impactful projects

Throughout 2024, Ceit maintained its commitment to scientific output, with 57 scientific articles published, 98 conference presentations, and 9 doctoral theses defended.

This year’s projects focused heavily on manufacturing, sustainability, and digitalisation, with significant progress in sectors such as offshore wind, semiconductors, bioeconomy, and advanced materials. This activity was made possible thanks to the support of public institutions, particularly the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

In addition, Ceit’s excellence was recognised nationally, as it became the top recipient of the Cervera programme for Centres of Excellence in Technology.

Ready for the future

The close of the 2024 fiscal year marks the final phase of the 2022–2025 Strategic Plan. The management team positively assesses the alignment between public funding and market opportunities enabled by the centre’s technological assets. “We are focused on our objectives and equipped with the technology and talent needed to lead innovation and continue being a benchmark,” Ayesa stated.

Ceit is therefore preparing to face new challenges with confidence, supported by a solid foundation of talent, scientific excellence, and collaboration with companies and public institutions. In the words of its Executive President: “With everyone’s collaboration, I have no doubt that we can continue looking to the future with hope and confidence.”
