Carl Antonius Lemke Duque has joined the Religion and Civil Society research group of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) at the University of Navarra to develop a project entitled "The Foundation and Future of the University in a Post-secular Society."

This new research approach aims to establish a critical foundation for the university’s Western-Christian identity focusing on the relationship between university, public sphere and post-secular society.

Carl Antonius Lemke Duque is a historian and political scientist. He has studied and developed his research activity at various centers in Spain and Germany. His area of ​​study covers medieval, modern and contemporary history, Romance philology, philosophy, political science and sociology.

Likewise, his field of research focuses on European transnational history (nineteenth and twentieth centuries), the history of ideas, education and religion, as well as political theory.

After obtaining a Magister Artium degree at the Humboldt University of Berlin, he carried out pre-doctoral research at the Complutense University of Madrid. In 2011, he received his doctorate in contemporary history and political science from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.

He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Leibniz Institute of European History in Mainz (IEG, Germany) and, later, as visiting researcher at the Istituto Storico Germanico di Roma (DHI, Italy) with a postdoctoral fellowship from the Basque Government as part ofthe Innova project at the University of Deusto. He is also currently a visiting professor at the University of Navarra within the Philosophy, Politics and Economics major of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
