Resumen:
The article examines the figure of the Moor in the character of Hamete through three works in which he is the protagonist: the plays of Lope de Vega, Belmonte and Martínez, and the anonymous burlesque of three authors. The analysis shows the differences in approach and treatment depending upon the dramatic genres in which the character is integrated: the tragedy of heroic tone of Lope, a somewhat incoherent comedy (Belmonte and Martínez), and a comedy of nonsense in which Hamete, like all the other characters, becomes a grotesque puppet, and tragedy is degraded into parody
