Global Dialogue, the International Sociological Association's newsletter (Volume 4, Number 3), published an interview with Arlie Russell Hochschild, professor emeritus at the University of Berkeley (USA), which was conducted by Portuguese doctoral student Madalena d'Oliveira-Martins of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra.

Madalena d'Oliveira-Martins is working on her thesis within ICS's Emotional Culture and Identity project funded by Zurich Insurance. As part of her research, she participated in a six-month research stay within the Department of Sociology at Berkley.

During that period, she worked with Professor Arlie Russell Hochschild, a pioneer in the field of the sociology of emotions, a branch of the social sciences that emerged in the late twentieth century. Madalena's thesis centers on sociological reflexivity and the sociology of emotions in Professor Hochschild's thought, who is considered one of the most important sociologists in the world.

The interview took place on February 27, 2014 in California during Madalena's stay there. It is entitled "Emotional work around the world."
