The program, which will address the current global challenges for the profession, will welcome student from the United States and the United Kingdom
The University of Navarra School of Nursing has launched Nursing Summer School 2015, a summer course aimed at international students. 'Nursing Challenges, an international perspective' is the title of this second year of the program, which will take a close look at the challenges facing the profession of nursing around the world.
The course, which last year welcomed students from the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), this year also expects student attendance from the University of Illinois (Chicago), Indiana University (Indiana), Northumbria University (Scotland) and the University of Birmingham (England).
The program combines academic (classes and clinical visits) and cultural activities. Thus, "the professional and cultural enrichment of the participants is enhanced," says Cristina García, Associate Dean of Research and International Relations at the University of Navarra School of Nursing.
The challenges in modern nursingThe academic program focuses on offering the students a global and international vision of the challenges that present-day professional nurses face. Active listening skills in health promotion, techniques to encourage an interpersonal patient-nurse relationship and strategies to teach patients and families how to manage and live with a long-term condition are some of the issues that will be presented on the course.
On the cultural side, the participants will visit Pamplona, Logroño, San Sebastian and their surroundings; they will also visit a winery and cover part of the emblematic Camino de Santiago (Way of Saint James) in their tour of Roncesvalles.
The course runs from 11 to 15 May 2015.
