The team from the University of Navarra School of Economics and Business Administration was named winner of the International Business Ethics Case Competition (IBECC) held in Boston. Students Carmen Casas, Itziar Masifern, Luis Huete and Juan Krauel won the Full Presentation category, under the supervision of the Dean, Ignacio Ferrero.

Unlike other competitions, the IBECC requires students to analyze the legal and ethical dimensions of a specific business case, and not just focus on strategic and financial aspects. “This makes it the perfect opportunity to apply all the knowledge we’ve acquired in the double degree in Business Administration and Law,” explained Juan Krauel.

In addition, unlike other cases, the students prepare the case in advance and present it after several months of study and analysis. Krauel went on to say, “This gives the competition a technical level and a degree of detail that are impossible to achieve in classic cases typical of other competitions, which last from three to 24 hours.” More than 25 world-class universities competed, including the University of Oxford and the University of California, Berkeley.

In terms of format, the IBECC actually encompasses three competitions: a full 45-minute presentation, a 10-minute presentation and a 90-second presentation. The student explained, “This unique format provides students with another major opportunity, since it forces us to keep summarizing our message until we come up with the central idea we want to convey in the final presentation.”

“This year we were very fortunate because the competition was held in Cambridge, an academic city that is home to universities like MIT and Harvard University. This allowed us to get to know Boston and other cities in Massachusetts, and even discover the charm of other places in New England,” said Krauel, who spoke about the “fantastic academic and personal experience” and extended his gratitude to the School of Economics and Business Administration for “its unwavering commitment to the enrichment of its students’ education outside the classroom.”
