32 students from the first year of Medicine from the Universidad de Navarra participated in the first Summer Course the Academic Board has ever organized. All members of the pioneering international program participated in the summer course that was held in the IESE headquarters in Barcelona, between the 24th and the 27th of June.

Throughout the course, lectures were given by the professors Dr. De Andrea and Dr. Knight, both from the University College of London (UCL), by professor Miriam Las Heras, assistant professor from the IESE Business School, and finally by Dr. Mengual, Director of the Anatomy Department of the Universidad de Navarra.

Participants mastered their ability to combine lectures with previous given material and the further practicing of their knowledge in class. They enrolled in distinct subjects such as Leadership skills, Anatomy and Histology of Human Senses, and, using the Problem Base Learning methodology, the History and examination (the foundation for diagnosis and treatment) class.

Cultural visit

Besides the academic content of this course, students also had the opportunity to visit the Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family by the hand of the architect and director of the Foundation for the Beatification of Antonio Gaudí, José Manuel Almuzara. According to Johnny Chart, an International Program's student, "being able to understand in firsthand how each architectonic element was taught and designed, allowed us to understand in a deeper sense the genie of Gaudí".

The director of this program, Dr. Juan Pons, explained how this was a unique opportunity where students would work in small teams and in a more practical methodology. Likewise, it was a great moment to learn from foreign teachers and to have a nice time among their colleagues from the International Program.

According to the School of Medicine, the next summer course will be held beyond Spanish borders.
