The Institute of Spanish Language and Culture (ILCE), from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, has launched a Youtube channel to share content on innovation and research concerning language teaching and assessment. Likewise, it attempts to facilitate consultations about the Institute in a rapid and original way.

The channel, that up until this moment has released more than 20 videos grouped in four different playlists—content for the ELE classes; digital stories; research and innovation projects; and ILCE programs and services. These are coordinated by professors Oihane Muxika, lecturer for ILCE with a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, and Isabel Torrubia, a student in the Master’s in Spanish Second Language Teaching program at the University of Navarra and the RAND Research Fellow from The University of Maryland.

“At ILCE, we detect a lack of quality materials on the internet which can be later used in classrooms. For this reason, ELE (Spanish as a second language) class specific channels have been created in a mode that responds to the pedagogical needs of the Spanish professors”, explains Torrubia. “Currently, we have a playlist on Spanish pronunciation and soon we will release one on grammar with a more conceptual perspective in ELE classes”, adds Muxika.

Another one of the channel’s playlists includes various stories, “multimodal stories of international students that studied Spanish at the University of Navarra”. This is one of the initiatives of innovation from ILCE and one of the projects that students do in their Spanish classes. Beginning in 2016, and available in Vimeo, it is the largest collection of digital stories for ELE speakers.

As Muxika states, at the Institute of Spanish Language and Culture, it is essential to communicate the research in an accessible way, as they consider. To do this, from now on, some videos regarding the research projects in innovation (that are carried out in ELE class) will be published periodically: ”In addition to bringing our projects closer, we will make it known our way of understanding the communication behind our research in the teaching of second languages; participative research in which the professors-researchers can explain what they discovered and understand with each intervention”.

Finally, through their Youtube channel, ILCE wants to make their academic offer known, from summer programs and Spanish for specific purposes, to stories about the Master’s in Spanish Second Language Teaching and tips for professors of ELE classrooms and information about the ILCE certification exam.

The channel is now available in the following link.
