Objectives
The immediate general objective of this program is to train medical doctors in neuroscience and cognition. 

The defined objectives of the program are as follows:

  • To provide doctoral students with training in the methodologies used in general and specific research in neuroscience.

  • To train doctoral students to design and conduct basic, translational or clinical research projects.

  • To help doctoral students develop a scientific and critical approach and the ability to work as part of a team.

  • To train doctoral students to carry out a research project in neuroscience and to communicate their findings in written and oral form. 

The program highlights the general methodological aspects of research, as well as those specific to neuroscience.

The doctoral degree is awarded to students who:

  1. Demonstrate a systematic understanding of a field of study and a command of the research skills and methods related to that field.

  2. Are able to conceive, design, put into practice and adapt a substantial research process with academic seriousness.

  3. Have made a contribution through an original research project that pushes the boundaries of knowledge by developing a comprehensive body of work, part of which is worthy of referenced publication at national or international level.

  4. Are able to engage in critical analysis and evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas.

  5. Know how to communicate with their colleagues, the academic community as a whole and society in general about their fields of knowledge.

  6. Are able to encourage technological, social and cultural progress in academic and professional contexts, within a knowledge-based society.

Competences
In accordance with the provisions of Article 5 of RD 99/2011, the Doctoral Degree in Neuroscience and Cognition guarantees that doctoral students will acquire basic competences, abilities and/or personal skills.
