Apply for Admission

1. Requirements
 

  • Admission to the Bachelor in Theology Program (STB):

    Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Students outside of Spain must demonstrate that they meet the requirements for attending university in their country of origin. Students who are not native Spanish speakers must either demonstrate a B1 level of Spanish or attend the Summer Intensive Spanish Program offered by the School of Theology at the University of Navarra.

  • Admission to Licentiate and Doctoral Programs:

    To begin the licentiate program, students must have completed the Bachelor in Sacred Theology (STB) from an ecclesiastical school or an equivalent program. Acceptance into the doctoral program requires the completion of the Licentiate in Theology (STL).

2. Application Process and Additional Requirements

Prospective students can apply to any of the degree programs in the School of Theology through the Miunav portal. Students must submit the following documents according to the degree program to which the student is applying:

  • Bachelor in Theology (STB):
    Students must submit documents that prove the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent, as well as any other documents or exam results required by the student’s country of origin to demonstrate eligibility for university admission.

  • Licentiate Programs (STL):
    Students must show completion of the Bachelor in Sacred Theology (STB) and submit a transcript outlining the courses completed and the grade earned in each course.

  • Doctoral Program (STD):
    Students must show completion of the Licentiate in Sacred Theology (STL) and submit a transcript outlining the courses completed and the grade earned in each course. To begin the doctoral programs, prospective students must apply through the Technical Secretariat for Research; usually, the STD will last between two and five years.

  • Seminarians, priests, and members of Institutes of Consecrated Life or Societies of Apostolic life, must submit written permission from their Ordinary or Superior for the completion of the program to which they are applying.

  • Priests must submit a letter of good standing demonstrating their eligibility and suitability to carry out pastoral work during the course of their studies.

  • The deadline for application for students residing in Spain is 15 May. It is recommended that foreign students apply before 15 February. The administrative office of the School of Theology will contact prospective foreign students and put them in contact with a local representative to walk them through the application process according to the student’s country of origin.

  • All of the documentation indicated above must be submitted for admission into the program. In the case that a prospective student is unable to provide one of the necessary documents for the application, he or she will explain the reasons; anyway, they will not be able to enroll in the Doctoral Program without all the necessary documentation.

3. Admissions Criteria

Admission to the School of Theology will be considered on the basis of past academic performance, possible entrance exams, as well as other considerations (aptitude, country of origin, age, knowledge of the Spanish language, etc.), all of which will allow for a just and balanced consideration of applicants.

4. Convalidation of Degrees and Coursework

Students admitted to the School of Theology at the University of Navarra who have already completed equivalent or complementary courses or degree programs at other institutions can seek convalidation either in full, for an entire degree program, or in part, for individual courses. To do so, students must request validation by uploading to miUNAV portal the study certificate with their qualification and the program of the subjects studied that they wish to validate. They will also have to be prepared to submit transcripts outlining each course completed along with the corresponding grades; in some cases, the student will be asked to submit a course description corresponding to each course completed.
