Background Cancer survivors (CSs) have needs that can negatively impact their quality of life (QoL). Oncology nurses play a key role in providing comprehensive care in cancer survivorship, although little is known about their impact on health outcomes. Objective The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of nursing interventions to improve QoL and satisfaction with care of CSs. Methods A systematic review was conducted. PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Cochrane databases were searched for experimental studies. The Joanna Briggs Institute Checklist for Randomized Controlled Trials was used to verify the quality of the studies (Prospero reference: CRD42020148294). Results Of the 8 clinical trials eligible for inclusion, 5 demonstrated that interventions conducted by nurses improved the overall QoL or some of its domains in CSs. The included studies focused on short-term survival; no studies in long-term CSs were identified. Two studies assessed satisfaction with care of survivors, obtaining positive results. Conclusions Nursing interventions seem to improve the QoL of short-term CSs. However, because of the low number of studies identified, the findings of this systematic review should be interpreted with caution. Implications for practice Further studies are necessary to strengthen the implementation of effective nursing intervention in cancer practice. Research should particularly be conducted with long-term CSs as there is lack of data on this specific stage of cancer.

Objective: To explore the educational methods used in the cancer training of undergraduate students in health sciences. Design: Integrative review with a systematic methodology was performed to obtain a comprehensive picture of the variety of educational methods used in cancer training. Data sources: A search was performed in the PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO and Cochrane databases for the period 2008¿2020. Review methods: The Critical Appraisal Skills Program (CASP) was used to assess the quality of included studies. Three reviewers extracted data and did quality appraisal. Results: A total of 40 articles referring to cancer training in medicine and nursing were included in the review; no articles referring to other health disciplines were found. The main educational methods used were expository methods, case studies, exercises and problems, problem-based learning, learning contracts and project-oriented learning. Conclusion: This review shows the need to combine educational methods so that health sciences students acquire competency (knowledge, skill, attitude) for comprehensive cancer care. There is a gap in the training of un-dergraduate nursing students to provide person/family centered care in oncology. To improve the training and professional practice of future health professionals, interprofessional education and the involvement of people with cancer in simulation education are recommended.

Aim: Information is one of the most important needs of families of critical patients. Healthcare professionals also identify the great value of communication with families to reduce their anxiety and stress. Despite this, families may feel inadequately informed, causing added suffering. The purpose of this study is to provide an understanding of both families' and healthcare professionals' perspectives on information giving within intensive care units (ICU). Method: A narrative review was conducted using MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO databases and the Cochrane Library to identify studies published in either English or Spanish from 2002 to 2018. Results: 47 studies were included, and five categories were identified: 1) "the need to know"; 2) family satisfaction with the information received; 3) impact of information on families' experiences in the ICU; 4) nurses and physicians' perceptions of information transmission, and 5) information process in the ICU. Conclusions: Providing honest and truthful information to the families of critical patients is essential to reduce family anxiety and increase family control, although this often appears to be inadequately accomplished by staff. Interdisciplinary involvement in information giving may be beneficial for both families and ICU professionals. This review brings new understanding about the process of information to families of ICU patients and it can be used to improve the quality and humanization of care in the ICUs. Living with chronic illness has an impact on the family's wellbeing and quality of life. An integrative review was conducted to identify and analyse the existing scales that evaluate the process of living with chronic illness or related factors of daily living from the family perspective. A search was developed in Medline, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, Cuiden and Scielo databases until May 2019. From 5,344 identified articles, 13 studies were eligible for inclusion. 16 scales were identified and assessed constructs related to the concept of living with chronic illness, including quality of life; perceptions and needs; life satisfaction and well-being; impact; and psychological adjustment to the disease. However, these scales do not measure the family process of living with chronic illness from a comprehensive perspective. This review highlights the need to develop and validate a scale that evaluates the multidimensional nature of living with chronic illness from the family perspective.

Purpose: Most qualitative studies do not explore experience throughout the urologic cancer survival trajectory. Moreover, the evidence of the experience of cancer survivors that focuses on the contextual aspects of culture is scarce in oncology literature. This study aimed to analyze the survival experience of urological cancer from the perspective of men. Method: This was a narrative research based on the concepts of culture derived from the interpretative medical anthropologic approach. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 male survivors of urological cancer at different survival seasons. Seven participants agreed to a second interview, which resulted in 17 interviews. The data were analyzed using a five-phase thematic analysis approach. The findings are presented as narrative syntheses. The standards for reporting qualitative research (SPQR) was used in this study. Results: Two narrative syntheses were constructed: "The journey of urological cancer: discovering oneself as a survivor" and "What I was and what I am today": the disruption on the body and life. The narrative synthesis shows that survivors undergo transitions of identity from being healthy men to wrecked men. The survivors tried to present themselves as normal men to keep their masculinity intact. However, the experience of survival constituted a process of liminality and biographical disruption. Conclusion: The experience of surviving urological cancer has highlighted the physical, emotional, and

Aim To understand what the absence of the family during emergency care means to adult patients and their families to. Method A grounded theory study was conducted in two emergency units of two public hospitals in southern Brazil. From October 2016 to February 2017, 15 interviews with patients and 15 with family members were carried out. The data were analysed following the comparative method. Results The patients and families experienced the absence of the family in emergency care as a process of suffering caused by the separation of patient and family; they did not understand the reasons for family exclusion, and were resigned to the situation. Conclusion Urgent care per se entails suffering in patients and their relatives; this suffering intensifies when the family is separated and cannot accompany the patient during emergency care. These results show the need to develop health strategies and policies that contribute to the comprehensive care of patients and families in hospital emergency units. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 139 family caregivers in two community health center areas in the city of Belo Horizonte, located in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between level of care dependency and quality of life (QOL) of family caregivers. A socio-demographic questionnaire, the Barthel Index for assessing patients' care dependency level, and the World Health Organization's Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) for evaluating family caregivers' QOL were used. Patients' care dependency level was not significantly associated with family caregivers' QOL. However, the QOL decreased when family caregivers had chronic disease and were dependent on public health care services, and increased when they received caregiver education and practiced a leisure activity. These factors are modifiable or controllable; therefore, family health nurses have an important role in formulating strategies to support family caregivers, especially those related to health education aimed at health care, health promotion, control, and prevention of diseases.

Current cancer treatments, along with more effective prevention measures, are producing increased cancer survival globally;(1) becoming ¿ in many cases ¿ a chronic disease.(2) Care of patients and families, living with a chronic disease, like cancer, constitutes one of the principal challenges for most health systems because they represent a heavy burden in terms of morbidity and mortality and carry a high percentage of the public expenditure in health.(3) Above all, the impact of cancer entails suffering and represents an important limitation in the quality of life, productivity, and functional state of the sick individuals and those living with them, that is, their family. More so, with evidence of the progressive increase of the number of older people with cancer, who are more prone to having comorbidities and other problems associated with their age, like dementia, depression, cerebrovascular accident, and diabetes.

Understanding the family experience of health and illness within the family's social and cultural context helps health professionals understand a family's stories. The purpose of this article is to present salient characteristics of the Western European family to extend understanding about family structure and values in relation to caring and intergenerational solidarity. The goal is to provide nurses and other health professionals with culturally competent knowledge that can inform practise with families. Evidence suggests that a family model, characterized by strong-family type societies consisting of coresidence, solidarity, and intergenerational relationships, stalwartly continues in Mediterranean countries. However, due to the recent economic crisis in Spain and other European countries, there is a trend toward the withdrawal of state responsibility toward the family, and increasing weight on families' responsibility, particularly for women, toward the care of their old and chronically ill relatives. Therefore, there is a need to make health and social systems more effective, sustainable, and focused on family care.
