This article analyses the creative strategies deployed to frame the narrative and aesthetic resemblance between Fargo the series and Fargo the movie. It explores the cluster of intersec- tions between the film and the TV show in relation to four categories: 1) The choice of a diegetic universe related to the original, which also frames the series within similar genre coordinates. Both productions present an investigative, thriller-ish plot that unfolds against the breath-taking snowy backdrops of Minnesota and Dakota, enabling us to view them under the paradoxical la- bel of white noir. 2) The dramatic construction of the main characters in the series replicates the struggle between good and evil present in the film, through the choice of analogous roles: good, incarnated again in an ordinary police woman; and evil, in the hitman duo from Fargo and Lorne Malvo, a diabolical character who features only in the TV show. Moreover, the series extends the antiheroic, pathetic archetype that acts as a catalyst for the intrusion of evil in the plot. 3) Traces of certain narrative and visual echoes comprise the clearest mode of resemblance, although they are also used to drive the plot in new directions and to underscore the metaphorical meaning of the mise-en-sce¿ne. 4) And last but not least, the development of the expressive possibilities of the landscape, which ¿ in both film and TV series ¿ is portrayed as linked with the inner world and personality of the characters.

Art plays a key role in the lives of Woody Allen's film characters. Many of them are writers, filmmakers or musicians; others, although not artists themselves, display a keen sensibility to appreciate art. The purpose of this article is to explore how this characterization trait significantly determines the nature of the characters, the ways in which they interact with each other, and even the fate they deserve within the plot. Art, in its many different manifestations, helps these characters infuse their lives with a boundless vitality, at the same time that it becomes a source of beauty and refuge. Furthermore, art plays a vital role in shaping romantic relationships as well as in enabling characters to achieve selfknowledge, both of which come close to the idea of happiness in Woody Allen's poetic universe. At the same time, together with this recognition of the redeeming potential of art, a poetic punishment is inflicted frequently in Allen's films on the characters that approach art with spurious intentions, as well as a stern warning of the vital unhappiness to which its enshrinement leads.

This article examines how childhood is adressed in the Hirokazu Koreeda's films Nobody Knows, I Wish and Like Father, Like Son. Being identifiable as inheritances of the original Japanese homu dorama -or home drama-films, they constitute an homogeneous corpus to explore the issue of family destructuring from a childish perspective. This issue happens to be a main plot motif in the filmography of the japanese director. Using a textual analysis supported by particularly expressive scenes this article explores, first, how the protagonist children physically and emotionally face this traumatic experience: their isolation before their parents, their yearning for them and their efforts to regenerate the family ties. All of these are constant tropes in the identified films. Second, this article analyses two archetypes produced by family destructuring: the inmature adult and the adult-child. Finally, Koreeda's knowing look to children is made clear in the exceptional capacity of creating strong bonds that he attributes to them. This fact reinforces another thematic constant in his ouvre: the conception of family as an institution supported by affective more than blood ties.

This article aims to explore the motivations fueling the behavior of the Breaking Bad¿s characters, especially the two protagonists: Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.
The discovery of Walter White¿s cancer serves as a catalyst (a particularly appropriate chemical term) for him to unveil his true `inner self¿. The serious nature of his disease, the associated medical costs, and his feeling of failure as both a father/husband and in the professional sphere, are established as the driving force behind his infamous behavior from the very start of the series. In the case of Jesse Pinkman, despite his roguish character, we soon discover his addiction to drugs, his dysfunctional relationship with his parents, and his need to be recognized and loved. However, beyond the strategies that underlie the initial sympathy that viewers usually tend to feel for this `ordinary American guy¿ and his meth-making partner, Breaking Bad divulges other keys that allow us to understand the different emotional and moral paths that Mr. White and Jesse Pinkman follow.
As we will explore, the progressive moral and criminal decline of Walter White is spurred on by the contradictory tension between two radical emotions that become `rationalized¿ in order to justify his actions, which become increasingly less defensible: an intensifying pride, and a guilt that fades as the narrative unfolds. Even when remorse emerge in Walter White¿s soul (specially during the last eight episodes), these two emotions play a

Although Breaking Bad (AMC, 2008-2013) is one of the most critically acclaimed TV Series of the last decade, it has been the subject of little academic research. This paper aims to figure out the motivations fueling Walter White¿s behavior, one of the most compelling characters in contemporary popular culture. However, beyond the strategies that underlie the initial sympathy that every viewer feels for this `ordinary American guy¿, Breaking Bad divulges other keys that allow us to understand the transformation from `Mr Chips into Scarface¿, following the premise described by Breaking Bad¿s creator, Vince Gilligan. As we will explore, the progressive moral and criminal decline of Walter White is spurred on by the contradictory tension between two radical emotions that become `rationalized¿ in order to justify his actions, which become increasingly less defensible: an increasing pride, and the guilt that fades as the narrative unfolds. In summary, we will analyze the moral and narrative mechanisms that hasten Walter White¿s self-destruction once he became aware that he was facing the end of
