Pello Uranga is the Associate Director of the Materials and Manufacturing Division at CEIT. He received his B.S. (1998) and Ph.D. (2002) degrees in Materials Engineering from Tecnun-School of Engineering (University of Navarra). Currently, his research activity is mainly focused on the thermomechanical processing and the microstructural evolution modeling of different steel grades, especially microalloyed steels and near net shape technologies, such as direct rolling of thin slabs. He has participated in more than 40 research projects, most of them industrial projects. He has published over 100 technical papers in international journals and conferences, receiving five international awards: 2003 Charles Hatchett Award (IoM3), 2008 Young Leader Professional Development Award (TMS), and the 2012, 2013 and 2016 Gilbert R Speich Awards (AIST). He is an active member of the AIST and TMS professional associations. He is also an external expert for the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) of the European Commission and more recently, he has been selected as Program Evaluator for both ANECA (Spain) and the ABET (USA).
