Resumen:
One aspect that changes a lot from Middle Age to the Renaissance is the urban landscape. Cities are transformed in relation to its appearance, fortifications and walls, even as stage for fiestas as manifestations of ruler's power. In this sense, the author of this article analyses the presence of cities in the sacramental plays by Lope de Vega. The starting point is the distinction made by saint Augustine in The City of God and developed by Enrica Cancelliere in her studies on Calderon de la Barca. Three kinds of cities are found: the earthly city, mythical or common; the diabolical or city of sin and the heavenly cities. In conclusion, the topic of cities has also been a fertile ground for Lope de Vega's imagination.
