Seminar: Public institutions and civic education
Civic Parliament questions the role of public institutions in promoting civic education
Representatives of public institutions from Navarra will participate in the seminar that will be held at the University of Navarra
The Department of Education of the University of Navarra, through the Civic Parliament initiative with which it maintains a collaboration with the Parliament of Navarra, organized a round table for September 27th which brought together Pedro González, President of the School Council of Navarra, Javier Enériz Javier, Ombudsman of Navarra; Javier Marcotegui, ex-parliamentarian, Andres Jiménez Abad, representative of the Education Department of the Government of Navarra, and Paz Prieto from the City Council of Pamplona. The debate focused on the question of the role of public institutions in promoting civic education. Concepción Naval, Professor of Education and Director of the Civic Parliament moderated the session. With the main aim of fostering civic engagement, the main foundation of democracy, the Civic Parliament seeks to promote education as an appropriate means of achieving better coexistence among citizens. In this sense, Concepción Naval says: "all social institutions have a role to play in cultivating democratic values and they must learn to participate, or in other words, to understand what social action means and to engage in it."
