ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR 2008-2009
1. The academic year 2008-2009 begins on Monday September 22 of 2008 and ends on August 25 of 2009. Classes begin on Monday September 22.
2. The ordinary teaching period is from September 22 of 2008 to June 25 of 2009, and from August 10 to August 25 of 2009. All days included in this period, except for holidays and Sundays, are considered class days, and all types of academic activities may be scheduled for these days.
First semester:
From September 22 through January 21.
First semester exams:
From January 22 through February 12.
Second semester:
From February 16 through June 3.
Second semester exams:
From June 4 through 25.
Extraordinary exam period: From August 10 through 25, 2009.
With prior authorization from the Office of the Executive Council, certain degree programs, due to their special characteristics, may change these dates.
3. During the normal teaching period, the following vacations will be observed:
A) Christmas: from December 20 through January 7.
B) Holy Week and Easter: from April 9 through 19.
4. The non-teaching period, which coincides with the summer vacation, extends from June 26 through August 9 of 2009.
5. The remaining types of university activities will continue through the entire academic year, without reference to the teaching periods: research, short courses, training programs, summer courses, etc. The training internships within the Diplomatures of Nursing and Human Nutrition and Dietetics also follow a distinct schedule.
6. The following days are holidays within the normal teaching period:
A) For the entire University: all Sundays, and the following holidays:
November 1: Feast of All Saints - Saturday
December 6: Constitution Day - Saturday
December 8: Immaculate Conception - Monday
January 28: St. Thomas Aquinas - Wednesday
March 19: St. Joseph - Thursday
May 1: Labor Day - Friday
B) For the Pamplona campus:
November 29: St. Saturninus - Saturday
December 3: St. Francis Xavier - Wednesday
C) For the Centers in San Sebastián: January 20, St. Sebastian - Tuesday
D) For individual Schools:
- School of Medicine: October 18, St. Luke.
- School of Sciences: November 15, St. Albert the Great.
- School of Nursing and Institute of Secretarial and Administrative Studies: November 17, St. Elizabeth of Hungary.
- School of Pharmacy: December 8, Immaculate Conception.
- School of Architecture and University School of Technical Architecture: Flight to Egypt of Our Lady (January 25) (Architecture) and of
St. Juan de Ortega (June 2) (Technical Architecture).
- Schools of Law and Canon Law: January 7, St. Raymond of Peñafort.
- School of Communication: January 24, St. Francis de Sales.
- School of Theology and Ecclesiastical School of Philosophy: January 28, St. Thomas Aquinas.
- Modern Language Institute: February 14, SS. Cyril and Methodius.
- School of Engineering: March 19, St. Joseph.
- School of Economics and Business Administration: April 5, St. Vicente Ferrer.
- School of Humanities and Social Sciences: April 26, St. Isidore.
Suspension of classes must be ordered by the President of the University, or, if the suspension only affects individual Schools, by the respective Deans or Directors, with the approval of the President.
The order suspending classes must be published on the public bulletin board of the Schools(s) affected.
Each Dean or Director may authorize the suspension of classes for a single day of teaching for the School or Center in question, in order to permit the celebration of the Crossing of the Equator or the graduation festival.
The feast days of the Patrons of the individual Schools and Centers may be moved to other dates, with approval of the corresponding Governing Board.
