Students
- Undergraduate Students 31.4% of enrolled Spanish students are from Navarra; 24.8% are from the Basque Country, 8% come from other countries; and the remaining 35.8% come from the remaining Autonomous Communities of Spain.
- Graduate Students 29.7% of doctoral students are from abroad; in Master's programs, 48.6% are foreign; and in specialization and other programs, 8.6% are from outside of Spain.
- In undergraduate and graduate programs 1,814 foreigners are enrolled, which makes up 13.74% of the total student body.
- 55% of student comes from middle-income origins; 32.5% are from lower-income origins; and 12.4% are from high-income origins.
Scholarships and the Association of Friends
- 5,705,207 euros were dedicated to financing 1,605 scholarships for undergraduate students. Of this amount, the University provided 221,686 euros and the Alumni Association financed 162 Alumni Navarrenses scholarships totaling 804,677 euros.
- In addition, the University dedicated 468,680 euros for scholarships for collaboration in departments and services, which benefitted 771 students.
- The University, drawing on its own resources, provided tuition exemptions and discounts for a total value of 9,093,484 euros.
- 572 graduates received aid for researchers in training, for a total amount of 6,428,549.68 euros. Of this amount, the Association of Friends of the University of Navarra provided 224 aid packages for graduate students who began university-level teaching, for a total of 3,045,246 euros. Un addition, the Association has devoted more than 4 million euros to the infrastructure necessary for the teaching and research activities of the University.
Students finishing their studies
- 1,647 students finished their undergraduate degrees, 129 defended their doctoral dissertations, and 647 obtained a Master's degree.
Internships in businesses and employment offers
- 3. 393 students performed internships in businesses and institutions.
- 2,407 job offers were received and 280 graduates received their first working experience thanks to the Program for Initiation to the Business World.
Cooperation and Exchange Programs
- The University maintains 266 agreements with universities around the world.
- During the most recent academic year, the University received 214 international students coming from universities of 31 countries, thanks to academic exchange programs. In addition, 272 students of the University of Navarra performed academic exchanges at associated universities in other countries. There were 68 MBA exchange students at the IESE, fruit of the exchange programs established with 23 universities from around the world.
New curricula
- As a result of adapting the University's curricula to the European Higher Education Area, during the prior academic year the new Undergraduate Program in Medicine was begun and during the 2009-10 academic year 31 more undergraduate programs will be initiated, verified by the Council of Universities. In addition, the University has received the positive verification of the Council of Universities for 28 Master's and 23 Doctorate programs.
Research
Research Plan of the University of Navarra (PIUNA) and subsidized projects
Destined 2,733,348 euros to nine projects. Regarding the projects funded through the annual calls for grant proposals, 51 projects are currently in progress, with a global budget of 776,463 euros.
In the period between July 2008 and June 2009, various public agencies have provided a total of 6,995,321 euros in order to finance 69 research projects. In addition, the University Foundation of Navarra, via its own resources and the aid of numerous persons and entities, financed part of the PIUNA projects.
In addition, other businesses and private foundations have provided aid directly to the University. Especially worthy of mention is the Caja Navarra Foundation, which, via its "You choose, you decide" program has approved a grant of 899,417 euros for the undertaking of 31 projects, receiving the support of 15,925 Caja Navarra clients.
Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA)
In the European context, 7 international projects are currently underway. Its research activity has given rise to this year to 8 new patents, joining the portfolio of 49 patents discovered previously. The number of scientific publications in 2008 was nearly 300.
The Science and Technology Institute of Navarra (ICT)
The ICT has provided services to 200 businesses and has signed more than 100 contracts for research and technological assistance. The billing of the ICT over this period was more than 7.5 million Euros. The Institute has managed a total of 68 active inventions (including those developed by the CIMA), of which 9 were developed during this year.
Center for Technical Studies and Research of Guipúzcoa (CEIT)
In 2008, it had revenues of 14.6 million euros. Within the category of operating income, R&D contracts with businesses made up 42.4%, and subsidies from public funds made up 57.6% (27.3% from the Basque Government, 19.2% from the Central Administration and 10.8% from the European Union).
Libraries
At the end of 2008, the library collections of the University held a total of 1,104,879 volumes, 19,983 print journals and 32,916 electronic journals. In 2008, 36,259 new publications were added to the library collections, 15,397 by purchase and 20,862 as donations or exchanges. The investment in acquisition of bibliographic materials was 2,860,487 euros.
Publications
In 2008, the Publications Service of the University of Navarra published 52 volumes of various journals. Ediciones Universidad de Navarra, S.A. (EUNSA) published 69 new works and 35 re-editions.
The journal Anuario de Historia de la Iglesia has been included in the Web of Science of the Institute for Scientific Information, of Thomson Reuters, which is considered to be the most important bibliographic database in the world.
University of Navarra Hospital
- Has 499 doctors, 768 nurses and 1,032 other professionals. 164,240 physician visits were registered; together with 13,733 hospitalizations and 11,861 surgical procedures.
The Hospital obtained for the second time the accreditation in quality and safety awarded by the Joint Commission International.
