A Bequest for Research

The donation of the Huarte art collection has laid the foundations for the construction of a Contemporary Art Center at the University. This collection, made up of paintings and sculptures from 19 artists, will constitute the heart of the new center, which will harbor researchers and promote studies on contemporary aesthetics.

Ideas that make the world better
In 2006, the CEIT took in 11 million euros. 45% came from industrial contracts, and 8.3% came from the EU. Businesses and governmental institutions know that the research performed by scientists of the University of Navarra has a high ‘social profitability’. Three projects currently in development—Confidence, Recital and Cabintec—shows that they are right.

Putting Development into High Gear
The University is working in the struggle against hunger and poverty via cooperation activities, and putting the knowledge generated on campus at the service of the most disadvantaged. The discovery of drugs that combat diseases such as tuberculosis and malaria, the development of markets and industry in situations of extreme poverty, and the role of NGOs, are some of the research lines.

Focusing the International Spotlight on the ‘Forgotten Continent’
Africa, one of the continents with the greatest natural wealth, and a paradise for many tourists, continues to be the ‘forgotten continent’ in many respects. According to experts, the low levels of education and the weakness of African administrations and financial systems form a strong brake on development. This was one of the conclusions of a seminar organized by the School of Sciences Economics and Business Administration.

Fashion ‘With Class’
For two days, the University took a stroll on the international fashion catwalk. During these two days, important personalities from the fashion industry converged on campus, in order to seek a new point of view on the Asian expansion of the fashion market. Their discovery: beyond the commercial aspects of this phenomenon, there exists the possibility of turning the fashion market into a meeting place between the East and the West.

The Hospital ‘Gives Back’ Hearing to the Youngest Patient in the World
The University of Navarra Hospital has successfully performed an operation on a 13 month-old girl who was born deaf due to an absence of auditory nerves. She is the youngest patient in the world to receive a brain stem hearing implant. After the operation, the girl is now able to hear and develop language skills.
