Types of Degree Programs Offered at the UN
This page describes the various kinds of degrees that you may obtain at the University of Navarra.
| Degrees most commonly pursued by International Students | |
| Licentiate ("Licentiatura") | The Licentiate is the standard undergraduate academic degree offered in Spain. Generally, the Licentiate is a five-year program, although some programs are offered on a four-year plan in order to allow students to enter the labor market more rapidly. Licentiate degrees are officially granted by the Government of Spain, with the result that foreign students wishing to receive a Licentiate degree must meet the same requirements as Spanish students (including passing the Selectividad prior to being admitted). In European and Latin-American countries, the Licentiate degree is typically seen as equal to a Master's degree, though this will depend on the country you are from. In the U.S., the Licentiate may be evaluated as equivalent to a B.A. or an M.A., depending on whether a thesis was written and defended. |
| Master's ("Máster universitario") | The Master's degree is a University-accredited degree, meaning that you will not receive an official diploma from the Spanish government. A Master's degree from the UN is nevertheless evaluable as a full M.A. or M.S. in the United States, and in addition is widely recognized by other countries and in the corporate world as being fully equivalent to a Master's degree obtained in another country. |
| Doctorate ("Doctorado") | The Doctorate is an official degree recognized by the Spanish government, and is equivalent to the Doctorate or Ph.D. in other countries. |
| Bachelor ("Báchelor/Bachiller universitario") | The Bachelor degree is offered by the Institute of Liberal Arts and by the School of Theology. The degree is equivalent to a B.A / B.S. / B.Th. degree in other countries, and is designed to be easily transferrable to an equivalent degree in your home country. Depending on the courses taken, it lasts from three to four years. |

| Diplomature ("Diplomatura") | A Diplomature is a three-year degree, also officially recognized by the government of Spain. In the U.S. system, the Diplomature is most closely equivalent to an Associate Degree (A.A. or A.S.) |
| Diploma | A Diploma is a University-accredited degree which provides recognition of studies performed (usually around 60 credits), but is not recognized by the Spanish government. May be transferrable as an Associate Degree (A.A. or A.S.), but contact the appropriate degree evaluation agency if you have any doubts about how this degree will be evaluated in your home country. |
| Degree of Architect | The Degree of Architect is a five-year undergraduate program, officially recognized by the Government of Spain. In the U.S., this degree may be evaluated as a B.Arch. or M.Arch., depending on the decision of the evaluation service or school you wish to attend. |
| Degree of Engineer | The Degree of Engineering, like the Degree of Architect, is a five-year official undergraduate degree. This degree may be considered to the the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.Eng) or a Master's degree (M.S. or M.Eng) in the U.S. |
| Specializations and Certificates | Various departments offer degrees which are intended to broaden the knowledge of their students, but which do not correspond to the studies necessary to receive an official degree. Contact the degree evaluation agency for your country to find out how these degrees will be transferred. |
