| 1.Who may apply for an Alumni Navarrenses Scholarship? |
Any person, of any nationality, who meets the academic eligibility requirements for the scholarship.
| 2. Can students who are not in their first year of university studies apply for these grants? |
Not during the current scholarship period (2005-2006).
| 3. What is the minimum grade point average (GPA) a student must have to be able to apply for a grant for the first time? |
Eligibility for an Alumni Association Scholarship, in the first year of studies, requires an grade point average of 8.5 or higher (over 10) for the final two years of secondary school (or in equivalent studies).
| 4. What are the requirements for applying for an Alumni Association Scholarship? |
In addition to the academic requirements, there are the following requirements:
- You may not possess any university degree.
- You must be admitted to the faculty or school in which you wish to pursue your studies.
- You must be admitted to a residence hall (colegio mayor).
- You must attend the examinations and interviews required by the application process.
- You must have applied for all the other scholarships (both public and private) for which you are eligible.
| 5 Will this scholarship allow me to complete all of my studies? |
Yes, provided that you meet the following requirements for yearly renewal:
- You must have passed all of your courses in the previous academic year.
- A cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 out of 4 (pass/aprobado: 1; notable: 2; excellent/sobresaliente: 3; A honors/matrícula de honor: 4), or else you must be among the top ten percent of the students of your class.
- Have a favorable report from your academic advisor in regards to the renewal.
- Have a favorable report from your residence hall or other university housing.
- You must have a persisting economic need, according to the renewal criteria specified for the scholarship during the application process (convocatoria).
| 6. Do I have to apply for renewal? |
Prior to May 30 of each year, you must apply for renewal in writing to the Alumni Navarrenses, having complied with the requirements of the scholarship, and in particular, the following:
- Register for the following academic year, at a minimum in all of the core courses and other required courses. If you do not register, you will lost the scholarship.
- Fill out the Declaration of Family Economic Status according to the format specified during the original application process.
| 7. What is the amount of the scholarship? |
These are individualized scholarships that the Alumni Navarrenses offers to academically high-achieving students who require financial aid in order to obtain their degree at the University of Navarra. The financial aid may cover all or part of the costs of housing, maintenance and registration for all of the academic years of study required for the particular major or academic specialization.
These scholarships are complementary to those provided by other aid institutions, whether private or public.
| 8. Can I apply for the scholarship in order to obtain any type of degree? |
You may apply for a scholarship in order to obtain any university degree among those offered by the University. You may not apply for these scholarships in order to pursue a Master's or Doctoral degree.
| 9. What are the application deadlines? |
The application deadlines are as follows:
- For candidates who will begin their first year of studies: May 15, 2005.
- For scholarship candidates who wish to renew: May 20, 2005.
| 10. What documents must accompany the application? |
In order that your application be accepted for consideration, you must complete and turn in the following documentation, as required for the granting period 2005-2006:
- Scholarship application form for the Alumni Navarrenses.
- Copy of your admission application to the University of Navarra.
- Handwritten letter from the candidate addressed to the "Alumni Navarrenses Scholarship Commission", with a maximum length of one side of one sheet of paper, explaining why you are applying for the Alumni Scholarship, and indicating the amount of money the student (or the family) will be able to provide.
- A handwritten biography of the applying student, with a maximum length of both sides of one single sheet of paper.
- The financial and employment documentation indicated in the 2007-2008 Scholarship Application Guidelines (available here).
- Official copy of your Academic Certificate (transcript) which lists the grades you obtained in your 1st and 2nd years of Bachillerato, or equivalent academic years in the case of foreign students (U.S. equivalent: high school). Those students who are not able to send transcripts for their final year of pre-university studies, must send these transcripts prior to the 5th of June.
- Degrees or certificates which demonstrate your fluency in languages, or else other skills or abilities you may have (see the 2007-2008 guidelines available here for more information).
- Completed forms "A" (family information) or "B" (family economic status, in euros).
- Two recommendation letters from instructors with whom the candidate has studied during his/her bachillerato (high school or equivalent). These may have a maximum length of 20 lines.
- Proof of having applied for all scholarships, either public (national, provincial or municipal) or private for which the student can apply, supplying documented proof of these application with the application for the Alumni Scholarship. Alternatively, you may supply the financial aid report provided to you by the Financial Aid Office of the University of Navarra, in which will be indicated whether, in your particular case, it is not required that you apply for public scholarship, since you would not obtain them.
- Copy of the Book of the Family (Libro de Familia). Foreign applicants must supply the equivalent document from their country, if such a document is used.
| 11. What are the evaluation criteria for judging which candidates will receipt an Alumni Scholarship? |
The Scholarship Commission evaluates the applications according to the following criteria:
- Academic Transcript: up to 16 points. 5 of these point correspond to obtaining the minimum grade point average required by the scholarship guidelines. One additional point (or fraction thereof) is added for each two-tenths by which your GPA exceeds the minimum, and another half a point for each academic year (or equivalent studies) in which you obtained honors.
- Financial Status: up to 16 points, computed as a function of the family income.
- Personal Interview. The result of this interview is a decisive factor in approving a student's application. The highest score possible for the interview is 8 points, which takes into account personal maturity, the student's intellectual, cultural and professional aspirations, social adjustment and sensitivity to social problems. In addition, key skills will be taken into consideration (languages, work performed, music) as well as sports activities (belonging to sports clubs, federations, etc).
- Siblings studying at the University. 1 point for each sibling registered for a complete academic year at the University of Navarra.
- Members of the Alumni Association. 2 points and up for each of your siblings who are members of the Alumni Association.
- Application Contribution. Personal and family effort towards investing in future studies is valued.
| 12. When will I know if I have been awarded the scholarship? |
With a deadline of June 20, 2005, the results of your application will be communicated to you. In regards to communications and notifications, the applicant's domicile and communication method can be any of the three following methods:
- Email, if you so indicate in your Alumni Scholarship application.
- Postal mailing address which you indicated in your Alumni Scholarship application.
- Any of the contact telephone numbers indicated in your Alumni Scholarship application.
| 13. Can the Alumni Navarrenses Scholarship be revoked? |
According to art. 18 of the Regulations, revocation may take place:
- By mutual accord.
- Failure to renew by reason of not fulfilling the renewal requirements.
- Anticipated Revocation.
The Governing Board of the Alumni Navarrenses, following the proposal of the Scholarship Commission, and following a prior interview with the interested party, may revoke a scholarship at any time, or deny its renovation for failing to comply with the responsibilities the scholarship entails.
Any of the following constitute sufficient cause for denying the renovation or concession of a scholarship: the manipulation, hiding or voluntary omission of information relevant to the concession, renovation or adjustment of the scholarship.
In any case, disciplinary measures leading to the revocation of a scholarship will only be adopted following an interview with the interested party.
In response to the decision to revoke a scholarship, the scholarship recipient may appeal once, via a written petition, addressed to the Rector of the University of Navarra, who will resolve the case in a definitive manner.
