What will this degree give me?

This double degree provides expert training in the natural and life sciences. Graduates will not only receive an all-round education in biology and biochemistry, but will also have specific problem-solving skills which give them a distinctive point of view in the professional fields in which they choose to work. Their studies prepare them for work in the fields of molecular and cell biology, indispensable preparation for new challenges in scientific research. As part of the double degree program, students also acquire the skills necessary for research.

Student profile

An interest in research – especially in the areas of genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, virology and biotechnology. Valuable qualities in a student of biology and biochemistry: observant, perceptive and attentive; creative, with good analytic and reasoning skills; an ability to organize and assimilate information well; critical skills; manual dexterity; an interest in zoology, ecology and research issues.

Professional opportunities

Research; experimentation and development of new techniques. Research in the areas of biomedicine, molecular biology, cell biology and biotechnology. The diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disease. Bio-analysis, clinical analysis, clinical biochemistry, immunology, virology, microbiology and parasitology. Health-care biotechnology; new challenges and products in disease diagnosis; vaccine production. New fields of research in relation to the genome, proteome and metabolism. Industrial microbiology: the design and analysis of production processes for new biotechnological products.

Extra-curricular activities

Work experience in industry (the food sector; environmental management bodies; research laboratories in the areas of clinical analysis, wine production, microbiology and genetics; industrial chemistry and pharmaceutical companies; forestry management bodies; waste and water treatment plants; disease control centers; fish farms; maritime museums and natural parks; companies in the food sector (dairy products, meat, etc.); biotechnology centers. Study periods abroad (the Erasmus and Socrates programs in universities in Germany, Belgium, Denmark, France, Holland, England, Italy, Norway and Switzerland). Student internships with different departments in the School of Sciences. Research projects in companies, the School of Sciences laboratories, or in research centers at the University of Navarra (e.g. CIMA: Center for Applied Medical Research). Access to the sports facilities and the many social and cultural activities organized by the School of Sciences and the University of Navarra. Voluntary work programs in environmental conservation.
